BoA "No Longer Enjoys" Working; Plans to Study Overseas

In a recent interview with the Japanese press, she made confessions that no fan of hers or the press expected to hear: that she "no longer" enjoys working, and that she plans to take a break from her usual routine and pursue her study in America.

She told interviewers that she was feeling "exhausted", which is hardly surprising, considering her incredibly busy schedules in the past seven years, going back and forth between Korea and Japan. However, her emotional problem apparently goes far deeper than that; she confessed that she felt as if "her identity as a human has been lost".

BoA said this is not a recent development. She felt that she had "lost direction" of her life ever since releasing Best of Soul, her best-of compilation that has sold more than a million copies in Japan. Since then she never really had time to reflect on her life and her goals.

Her plan to overcome this slump is to realize her teenage dream, which is to go to a university in America and pursue the studies that she has always wanted to do. She said that she was "certain" that in four years' time she'd be attending a university in the U.S., improving her English and dance skills.

We wish the best for BoA and whatever lies ahead in her career.

I feel so bad that BoA is going through this. She's worked so hard for the past 7 years. I mean, she acheived her dream, but at what cost? Poor BoA, hope she finds herself

Oh my god, I really love BoA. I am going to feel empty without her releases. They give me something new and good to listen to, but not be so serious over like anything Ayu does or releases.

On a side note, I would sh-i-t myself if I ended up going to the same University as her!

I don't really blame her. It must be hard to work non-stop from such a young age, and.. not get tired of it, ya know? It's great that she has such a big career and so many fans, but I definitely think that finding her sense of identity is much more important, even if that means taking a break. If a 40-hr job, or even a part-time job leaves you exhausted sometimes, I can't imagine how tiring it must be to have her job. I wish her the best and I hope she finds the rest and fufillment she's looking for

This is good for her. Her sale have been declining recently so this change of pace will be a great recovery.

it should be better for her to take a break, she had lost the best of a teenager's life when she's 14 years old. She deserved that. and hopfully, she will come back with some remarkable songs. (^_^)

LOL hilarious how she's being honesty now but it really makes a lot of sense. After BEST OF SOUL, it was clear she was not loving her career anymore. We just listen to any songs after that...they're so soulless, apathetic, mediocre...I had the feeling BoA was just being automatic with her latest releases. I can't feel the energy and enthusiasm from VALENTI and some of her older hits anymore.

That's depressing, but I do think it's the best. She needs a break after all these years, and I'm sure if she did want to come out with another album someday, this new experience will definitely bring a great album.

Also, my guess is that she'd go to a University in NY or LA. :/

Wow in a way i'm kind of shocked to hear this, but it must be heard to do something ,when you feel its not what you really wanna do or your tired of it ...... I just started getting into BoA too, so I wouldnt have realized how she really felt like you guys kind of expected.
I wish the best for her though. Hopefully if she really does take a break its not for too long ^^

BoA is only 21 years old, she definitely deserves a break. I'm happy to know that she's interested in going back to school. I hope she have fun overseas if she's really planning to do that. I was hoping for a Korean album though. But if she comes in Canada to study, that would be cool... haha.

I don't think anyone should be surprised by this. Everyone had an inkling about it since she releases in Japan + Korea and her schedule is really hectic.

I wish her the best and if she decides to come back, she'll release better music

Well this is just sad. I feel bad for the girl since she feels as if she's lost her identity. I'm glad she'll be doing something she really wants to. I can't say I feel too bad though because most people should expect the consequences that come with being a pop star, but BoA's been doing a lot more work than plenty of them.

haha hopefully someone from here ends up attending the same university...there's someone here who is at the same univesity as Crystal Kay, so it's possible!
