Best of Asia, Bring on America - Try and Eat Us Up

Since the last post has reached it's 500th post I will start a new one for fear that people will go crazy.

Let's try to remain objective and polite to one and other on either side of the spectrum.

We are all BoA fans and entitled to our opinions. Let those who state "fail" know that that is a childish thing to say. Debates are going to happen regarding her American release, don't take things personal.

:]

As you know Eat You Up has released in a rather low quality sound through many sites and it's time to critique and breakdown bit by bit!

GO!

My opinion:

As it does sound like a BoA song I was disappointed with the sterile feel it gave through it's verses. The pause between each word was a bit unnatural and could easily be thought that it was given for BoA to pronounce each word to the best she could while nix-ing her heavy accent; which was still heard in different parts.

Here's to her next song being more catchy and pulling in a strong English American music fanbase!

The beat was great but definitely not Bloodshy & Avant's best. I thought that they played across the board that this part was for this and that part was for that. I didn't hear much of them being really creative and taking edgy steps.

I hope BoA brings back that shine that really got me hooked on her way back in the day. :]

I think the song is great. Brit could have done it much better though but I hope BoA has huge success!

Which parts exactly?

I thought that this song was a little sterile and not edgy like Britney.

I think the only part that would reflect a similarity with Britney is the chorus which repeats the title of the song.

Britney songs use a lot of different layers and different things going on within the beats -- this song was pretty straight forward.

I do think that Britney would have writers that would use a more creative way of saying "eat you up" though... *shrug*

Oh yeah because Lord know "Womanizer" just had so much going on within the song. Have you heard the instrumental? It's so BORING.

The title for this thread is so clever.

Eat You Up sounds not like a Britney!

I definitely understand why this isn't Bloodshy & Avant's best work. I mean let's face it, why would they give BoA one of their best composition when they can give it to Britney for her comeback or something like that?

^ Pure garbage to you huh milky. You can always use it on Hikki's ingles album.... (j/k....not really...)

I don't know about buy'n the album either. I need to hear another single before buy'n it. I just don't see the states luff'n this song. I think SM went way to fast with her debut. Her first single prolly should have been a R&B single. BoA does seem like she was try'n to hard with EYU which is a no-no.

I think we should try to support the song, well people in America, even if we don't like it. If BoA's song can do good it would open the door to many Asian artist that want to debut in the U.S. it'd be exciting. Is there anyway that we can get "Eat You Up" on the radio?

Well I'm pretty sure you know as well as I do that american's release 1 single to promote their album and then the album release comes after, so you'll prolly just have to preview the album to see if you want to buy it, but for me I'm going to buy it to support her.

^Yeah, I do which I hate but then luff at the same time. XD I'll prolly go to a FYE store that has that lil machine thingy that let's you listen to the song fully. I just hope it's not really bad or anything. *is still mad about buying GGGB* It's not that I don't support her which I do but I just hate wasting money on stuff that I'm going to end up hating. (Okay, my statement sounds a lil messed up but try to get what I'm saying if you haven't already. lol)

You say she wouldn't sell herself out, but her Japanese music up to that point was much more R&B influenced and Americanized (which is part of what helped her to get as famous as she is). I don't think she would have had to sell herself out at all. She took a risk, and tried to do something different, and it failed miserably. Hikki also worked with Timbaland, who has been famous for a long time, so I don't think you can say she wasn't given a good chance with people she worked with.

It's true she does have the English accent, but BoA's isn't too bad in the song. And Hikki did little to no promo for that album (probably she knew how bad it was), so being fluent was wasted. And I'm not trying to bash her--up until Ultra Blue, I loved Hikki and I anticipated her US debut highly. But, in ended up being cheesy electro crap.
Hmm you're right. I know a lot of people who liked Exodus '04 and things like that, but I guess her attitude to the whole thing was so bad that it couldn't possibly do well. Here's BoA saying she wants to "Bring on America" where I remember Utada stating she didn't really care if the album did well or not.

Exodus wasn't so fail in terms of the music, but more in terms of marketing. Why didn't she pick more conventional songs like Exodus '04 to break into the market? Why did she release cheesy stuff like Easy Breezy and for the UK market; You Make Me Want To Be A Man instead? BoA is putting more focus on marketting and maybe that will make her do better than Utada. At least I hope Utada has learnt from her mistakes from the previous album to better now.

Anyway, I think BoA's english is quite decent, but it will be picked on heavily due to her background. I mean some parts of the song aren't so clear, and she said "mush" instead of "much" which already shows her english wasn't polished enough. But I can always hope people wont notice. XD

Haha I was just kidding.
But seriously I think everyone here pitching in the 99 cents wouldn't hurt.

I wonder if the album will still be released if the single doesn't do well.
