That's awful that she hurt her hand. I've had stitches in both my hands, never surgery, but i know she must be in awful pain. I just hope she will rest and recover.

hope she gets better...
this will be the first time that she'd not be going to kouhaku, right? (if she ends up not going...) that's unfortunate, but her health is way more important.

Yikes. If that's the case then I hope she'll use the time to rest up for CDL...the one show I don't think she'll ever cancel.

Ayumi Injures Hand;in Doubt For Red & White Singing Contest

According to her agency Avex Group, Hamasaki fell down the stairs at her apartment on Wednesday and injured her right hand. Staff took her to hospital where she received medical attention, and on Thursday she underwent surgery. Hamasaki later had to cancel her live performance at TV Asahi’s “Music Station Super Live 2008” on Friday night. Her doctors say the injury will take three weeks to heal, and her fall was caused by anemia exacerbated by fatigue.

Hamasaki wrote on her blog: “I can’t even hold a microphone. I’m really upset and truly sorry I couldn’t make it to ‘Music Station.’” In addition to the Red and White Singing Contest, she is scheduled to perform on the 30th and 31st at Yoyogi National Stadium. “I just have to believe in my strength, and hope my body can heal before then,” she wrote.

Shin Ishihara, chief producer of the Red and White Singing Contest, said: “We wanted to open the show in a certain style and Hamasaki was going to do that for us. But now we’ll have to wait and see.”

Rehearsals will be held on Monday, where it will become clear if Hamasaki will open the New Year’s Eve show as scheduled.

Not to make light of the situation, nor do I want ayu to perform (I actually want her to learn a lesson from this and take a break), but what about a headset microphone? She's talking like holding a microphone is her only option. I wonder why.

Maybe more happened to her than she's letting on, or, the fact that she had to have such a serious procedure (surgery is ALWAYS serious business, even for something like this) really affected her, and she needs time to mentally recuperate more than she needs physically.

But basically like you said, there's heavy speculation that she will not attend Kouhaku D: and if that's the case, the chances of her doing Premium Countdown Live is low... Maybe if they switched the song to an easier one for her to perform?

Either she could use her left hand (the "backup hand") or she could just use the "headset mic". Right now, there are three options: cancel only the Kouhaku to conserve for the PCDL, cancel only the PCDL so she can do the Kouhaku and do some rest (or maybe a surprise visit on CDTV's Premium Live), or cancel BOTH the Kouhaku and the PCDL.

I'm preferring for her just to cancel the PCDL and do the Kouhaku, but we'll have to see. Safety is really a number one priority, and the Kouhaku is surely shorter than the PCDL, but we'll just have to wait for Ayu's decision on both the Kouhaku and the PCDL.

I just don't want her to get injured any more.
