[article] She Ain't Pink, She's Mink

Excerpt:
Quote:
On the brink of topping the American Billboard Hot Dance Play Chart today is Mink, who is in the number two slot followed only by Coldplay's "Talk."

Other than the fact that Mink had enjoyed airplay in Japan, where she debuted, little had been known of her. However, the newcomer's song "Glory of Life" is one of the most played songs on the U.S. club scene. It turns out, though, that Mink is a 22-year-old Korean. She is currently signed with Japan's recording powerhouse Avex Trax.

According to a press release issued by Avex and distributed by local SM Entertainment Tuesday, Mink went to Japan in her early teens to study and landed a contract with Avex, one of the world's largest independent record labels in the world, after she sent in a demo tape.

An animal lover, Mink also said she would like to involve herself in the animal rights movement.

I have heard of Mink, but never really bothered to check out her songs. Seeing that she is also in the US, I'm more persuaded to find out about her.

its more for djs and stuff, so it doesn't even have a real cover or anything, more of just a cd in a jewel case, lol.

I hadn't heard of Mink before this, but i'm interested to check her out. I find it quite funny though how a lesser known artist can slip under the radar and gain some success in the West, yet a huge artist such as Hikki flops horribly (even though the album was good) heh.

I started listening to mink recently and even though she's much lesser known, her vocals and the music she sings can definitely get her in the US market thousand times more easily than Utada Hikaru. Seriously, I played "run to you" sang by mink and asked my brother who was singing it and he didn't think twice before saying it was Whitney Houston. She can really sound like an american singer even though she still has quite some accent.
Also, the Chris Cox remix of Glory of Life is awesome. I wouldn't be impressed if that's actually the remix rocking the dance floors in the US LOL

^ It's usually easier to "expand" your fanbase overseas if you're not so well known. ^^;

Avex is an independent label. it's not part of the big four labels that control like ~80 % of worlds music market (Sony , Universal , Warner & EMI).

same way as there are independent movies , it means they're movies which aren't produced by the big movie production companies.
