Ayu Karaoke

So, I'm sure many of you have, but have you ever gone to a karaoke place and sang ayu?

I have a few times...going today actually. I REALLY hope they have MOON, but I doubt it. It's an asian place though, so who knows.

I'm taking my camera so I can save the memories.

LOL...so for those of you who went, share your experience. Do you prefer singing ballads or fast songs?

Twice I went and we had a private room.
Another time it was just one big bar, I remember singing A Song for XX, and I think Dearest or something. Everyone was looking at me like I was crazy...like, "why is this white boy singing in japanese?!" lol but the bartender kept giving me compliments, she was really impressed.

Ahhh I hope I can sing a lot today!

At home...yes
In public...no

I sang with my friend, but neither of us can sing very well XD I was really shocked at her great pronounciation~ She's never taken Japanese before (^^)

I sang Microphone, A Song for XX, EnergizE, JEWEL, and Memorial address (*^^*) Ballads are so much easier for me because they aren't as hard on my throat

My friend sang Rule, Microphone, MOON, STEP you, and You were... (^^) She has a bigger voice and doesn't care how she sounds so she loves singing rock-ish songs

I love karaoke but I'm much too embarrassed to sing in public

Lol, I sang at home, so we had MOON, but I've never been to a karaoke place to sing, so I'm not sure if they'd have it (^^);; Sorry~~~

not even reading the rest of your post. this exactly sums me up.
I can't sing for ****. I would never do it in public. White boy singing japanese looks ridiculous. Besides, I can't read kanji so for me to sing any ayu song, I would already have to have memorized it.

So I'm ridiculous then?

...it's only ridiculous if you sound retarded (not saying you do). Luckily for me, I sound flawless. **not my singing talent, just my pronunciation lol

yes you are. I bet it's funny to see you sing live. But I would never do it live. hell I get made fun of in my own house just for listening to music I don't understand. If I ever sung it in public I'd probably die of embarrassment.

Same here. -_-

I do Karaoke with my family occasionally but I've never done it for a Japanese song let alone Ayu. Just one of those things to look forward to when I move out, I'll invite some of my J-pop loving friends over and we'll have ourselves a Karaoke night!

I've never sung in an actual Karaoke bar though. I think I'll save that experience for my dream trip to Japan.

I just went yesterday to karaoke and I sang Dearest, lol! Last time I sang Because of You. The newest song they have at karaoke place is Sparkle, which I sang before. I think most korean karaoke places carry the same songlist....

OH I HAVE A LOT TO WRITE HERE!! I have 2 friends who are very into J-pop as well!! We agreed that we will go into a karaoke studio and opened our own concerts. Of cos, i opened an ayu concert. So far, i had 2 of my own concerts!! I even took the time to arrange the songs to fit like a concert. here are my setlists.

Concert 1 (majority my favourite songs)
1) talkin' 2 myself, is this LOVE?
2) A Song for XX
3) Duty, Because of You
4) Microphone, identity
5) In The Corner
6) GREEN, Days
7) Pride
8) Don't look back
9) Startin'
10) evolution, UNITE!
11) Born To Be..., NEXT LEVEL

Concert 2
1) ourselves
2) EnergizE, Lady Dynamite
3) UNITE!, evolution
4) 1LOVE, until that Day...
5) (don't) Leave me alone, GAME
6) I am...
7) HEAVEN, BALLAD
8) JEWEL, Curtain call
9) Secret
10) kiss o' kill, INSPIRE
11) AUDIENCE, Sparkle
12) Mirrorcle World

to be honest, i am quite proud of my vocals hehe.. My friends even said that they felt like crying when i sang HEAVEN and JEWEL. they also felt that INSPIRE was an interesting song, and my singing during the last phrase of dlma was AWESOME SH|T!

gonna have another concert full of ballads..

I usually don't sing Ayu's songs at karaoke place.
There are only a few places here that have Ayu's songs.
But once i with Indonesian Ayu fanbase sang Trauma and did the para2 thing together in a large karaoke room. We recorded it and upload it to youtube. Very fun. ^^

I suggest you to go to Inul karaoke, they have tonnes of J-pop and C-pop songs. And I usually go to Korean Karaoke too, they have lots of Japanese songs

I've gone to Karaoke afew times. We have a few karaoke places where I live and a lot more in Toronto. Ayu has a large discography so theres always stuff to sing, but not everything unfortunately.
Ballads or not, if you really love the song then anything can be fun. I love HEAVEN and CAROLS and always sing them but I also love Sparkle and glitter so those too are a blast and I always record the singing. Sometimes, you can speed the songs up and change the pitch for a greater, often hilarious, challenge.
Because we are all so shameless we have a lot of laughs about it later. One time the owner was so impressed/amused with our crooning (?) that she emptied out her candy bowl and gave it all to us as a reward.

Last edited by Yumsushi; 18th July 2010 at 08:36 PM. Reason: Why do they keep letting us comeback?

I sing some of her songs at home for fun, and for practice, but I never karaoke; I actually dont even know if we have such a place here. I'm sure there is but probably not with Japanese songs for starters.

But totally go and do it and have loads of fun!!

In japan, I will sing like the live versions... how can I explain?

They have karaoke of the CDL or Arena Tour in Japan, and it's much more exciting and fun, because you can hear the audience voice.

Now, I'm in Toronto, and sometimes I will go to Korean town where we can sing some japanese songs, and there are many Hamasaki Ayumi songs. It's really great, but it's mostly just singles...

I go with many foreign people, and I'm so surprised... maybe they can sing Japanese songs more than me ahaha. I'm impressed!

Try Star or Twister Karaoke in Toronto; Twister has the largest number of Ayu songs though but their menu is a little confusing. I havent seen microphone anywhere yet but the karaoke place I went to on Sunday already had You were... so I assume places in Toronto would have it aswell.

Yeah, now I am studying at University of Toronto downtown~

I know for sure that if you go to Finch karaoke, like Shout or Yonge Karaoke, they have really new ones. I know there are certain rooms in Shout that already have Microphone for sure, because I sang that. But my korean friends told me there's two types of system in Shout, and it depends on the room you get. Yonge Karaoke doesn't have Microphone I don't think, but it's still really cheap.

Shout Karaoke's two systems are really similar, but for example one system has Microphone, while the other doesn't, and one has GREEN while the other doesn't. One has Rule, and one has Sparkle. But I would suggest the system with Microphone, because it has the most amount of non-album songs from Ayu... it's really great. But actually, I think You were... is on the system that doesn't have Microphone, because I sang You were... there too, but I can't remember...

Anyways, the point is I really like Shout because many Ayu songs.

I do not recommend Twister at all. It's so expensive, and the front desk lady ripped us off when we decided Twister wasn't for us... the system is too confusing, and we love to change key and tempo to play games, but Twister can't do it, and too expensive, so we decided in the first 5 minutes to leave, and the front lady said we have to pay for 30 minutes then... sorry, I dont accept, so I just left like one dollar on her counter, and left... LOL

Shout and other korean style karaoke places have smaller selection of songs, but they give you free service time, like 1 hour extra without paying for it, and also the sound quality is really good, and rooms are so nice and clean... and the front people are really nice.
