"100 most influential Japanese people" as chosen on the internet

Around mid-June, eight prominent Japanese sites conducted the same online poll and compiled all the votes received together - a total of around 265,000 votes - into one comprehensive ranking. The question asked was which Japanese person they considered most influential, and here are the full ranking results:

I'm surprised that Miyazaki Hayao, Miyamoto Shigeru and Toriyama Akira didn't rank higher. But yay for the days of Nakata Hidetoshi and more yay for Ayumi. A sign of a second coming?

Me too. I think she got on the list because of the youngsters that like her right now. But, it seems unfair that she made the list and not someone like Utada.

Well Utada hasn't really been doing anything lately.....its not surprising nobody voted for her....she was already voted the most influential Japanese singer of the last decade (2000-2010) so I guess thats already enough....looks like she has some catching up to do in the near future.

Seeing as this is an all-encompassing poll (with politicians, filmmakers, athletes, etc.) it's impressive enough that she made it.

Yeah I definitely think it's cool seeing everyone in one big list, and I'm so thrilled that Ayu made it pretty high up! I think the list looks extremely fair; I can understand why a bunch of the people in the top 30 are there and yeah, Takeshi certainly deserves #1 because even I find him extremely inspiring and I love his work, both as an actor and as a film maker.

Mao Asada, HAYAO MIYAZAKI, AYU!!!!! LOVE THIS LIST...I think its great. Mr. Miyazaki is a true talent, as is ayu and mao is just beautiful and sweet

Surprised that Kosuke Kitajima didn't make it along with anyone from Sony/Panasonic/Honda Motors :S

but I think Hayao Miyazaki should be at the top 15 for the very least, his movies are really great
