KPOP too overrated these days??
hey people, what do you think?....I've heard of friends who became BoA's "hardcore fan" only after hurricane venus... And they actually listen to BoA just because kpop is in trend now.... with snsd, wonder girls, FT island etc etc...
And being a BoA fan for so long.... makes mi feel that this is so sucky... |

well, with BoA I think a lot of people didn't like her with her activities in Japan because her songs just weren't that great. in Korea, she gets a lot of catchy and addicting songs so it's easier to like her. same with other people in Korea, they just make really catchy pop music that's easy to love and makes you want to put it on repeat like all day.

i heard that in some citys in asia its really really overrated which i agree that it can be pretty annoying at times
but i think you should just listen to the music you like and not because it is a trend right now and this comes from someone who isa kpop fan

Honestly, yes. It is overrated.
I used to be a fan, but I began to grow so tired of it a few months back, so I don't listen to it anymore. It became so boring, it all sounds so manufactured. |

lol this is the thing about kpop, there are artists that no one cares about until they release a catchy song .. I heard that everyone hated SNSD and wouldn't give them a break until they released Gee, and SHINee became more popluar with Ring Ding Dong and now new fans (I mean people who liked kpop after BoA stopped making Korean songs for a while) like BoA after HV.
When I first got into the kpop fandom I would raise an eyebrow when people tell me they were also fans of SNSD and SHINee, and yet they never heard their unpopluar songs or even album tracks .. but now I got used to it lol, not all kpop fans are like that though, just listening to it because it's the trend .. Have some faith in this fandom XD Yeah I think a lot of songs in kpop are overrated (Po Peep ? Really now ?) .. I wish kpop artists were popular for the actual good music they make not the catchy autotuned songs that get old in two weeks (I'm not saying I don't listen to them though, guilty as charged XD) |

Yes Kpop is overrated but I don't really get what you are trying to say with the whole BoA example.

Music is music. In every genre and language, there will be over-rated bands/singers, those who deserve more fame, songs you love and songs you hate.

It's not kpop what it's overrated
it's just some bands/songs what its overrated (but i'm not saying overrated is something bad, probably, i love most of the overrated bands) i can tell you tons of kpop bands that are underrated and deserve tons of love

honestly and personally speaking, i do think kpop is overrated. i actually read more about kpop than jpop on some forums that i frequent and it's kinda annoying to me. i did listen to the wonder girls for a very short time back in 2008, but they didn't really interest me after a few more songs. i feel as if in kpop, there's not much variety compared to jpop. all i see/read/hear about is the same girl groups and boy bands with the same type of pop/dance songs. i do listen to BoA, but i never heard her korean songs. i'd rather stick to her japanese songs (which i love, anyway).
i seriously feel as if jpop is slowly getting underrated nowadays thanks to all these korean groups. to me it's pretty sad lol.

since you're from Singapore like me , you would definitely understand how much in recent times , every if not anything has been switched to a very KPop influence base ~_~
I refuse to get KPop baited because 1) I don't believe in following trends 2) I don't find KPop appealing be it music or guys ;p 3) I can't understand a single word of Korean 4) It took me close to 4 years to understand how things are worked in the Japanese context & I don't want to spend the same amount of time/effort to do that for KPop 5) KPop seems very stagnent & all bands looked the same to me . I can't see KPop producing a KPop version of let's say GReeeeN if not Kanon Wakeshima & let alone Acid Black Cherry I have nothing against KPop frankly speaking but what really irks me is when people shove it in my face saying & making it look so great

I don't get Kpop, the songs are catchy but the pop stars are just boring and average, they could be anyone plus they're pretty talentless.

Yes they could be anyone and that's why a lot of fans (including me) adore them, if you watch their variety shows (I recommend them btw, they're hugely entertaining) you'd notice how they're just ordinary people, they remind me of my friends ![]() And about talent, a lot them are amazing vocalists and dancers .. I could make you a long list of talented kpop idols who are good enough to have solo careers ._. .. You just need to look hard enough |

It is if you only listen to idol music which is what a lot of fans fawn over.

I agree with K-pop being overrated. And what's the purpose with TV shows (Music Bank, Music Core, Inkigayo) and "competition" to be #1? I don't get that idea - we usually do NOT see this very often in J-pop...

i don't know if its overrated or not.i remember the same thing happened when the jpop become very famous (just like now, where kpop is famous) i don't restrict myself for not listening to them,as some of the songs are quite good (anyone remember 'because i'm a girl'?)

Yes, I think KPop is overrated, I stopped listening to it just less than a month of getting into it.
Here's my reasons - When a new fashion style is popular EVERY GROUP will wear the same **** to the point that they all look the same. - Most of the songs sounds the same. - When an artist release something new it is automatically called a comeback. - The songs are generic. - KPop fans are just annoying. |

I don't think it's overrated.
Depends if it's your cup of tea or not. If you don't care for their mainstream type of music, then of course you're probably gonna be like "wth is this crap". And if you just try out only a few people, and give up on their music, then you're going to miss out. There is an amazing pool of talent and ingenuity in Korea, as there is in any country. I feel sad that some people regret that there is a "boom", and that music from another country is starting to get more recognition. You should be happy that people are "diversifying" and trying new things. As for BoA. I don't like a lot of her music. For me, it's boring, same old same old pop, and her voice can get annoying. But I her dance tracks...and Hurricane Venus just happened to be in Korean. If it was in Japanese, I would still love it...so I don't see why it's sucky.I could see how some people could like...specify more, and say "so and so is overrated" or "their mainstream pop scene is overrated"...but then it's still all based on opinion isn't it.
