I haven't used a CD player since I bought an MP3 player in 2002. With storage space many times greater than CD players, the ability to view ID3 tags, along with many other features, I'll be using MP3 players for quite some time to come

I have a Diamond RioVolt. It's a CD/MP3 player with an FM radio. When I got it, it was unique and quite top of the line. One of the nicest things, to me, as the media is insanely cheap. ^_^

yea mp3 is easy to transfer songs and update ur tracklist

and its usually very small .. very convenient! but then again .. mp3s aren't really supporting the music industry and ur fav artists!!

don't u guys remember BoA and some other korean artists doing this anti-mp3 player campaign a few weeks ago? cuz mp3 players encourage ppl d/ling more mp3 and therefore, them making less profit and lower quality in their music ><

besides! CD players have super nice sound and high quality from ur real CDs!! not copied or anything!!

sigh ... i don't think anyone will listen to me tho

I personally like to take all my CDs, rip them to MP3 and have 120+ songs on one disc instead of 20 or less. It's a technology with the possibility for bad, just like CDs but easier (I can copy them bit for bit). The vast majority of music I have on my player is ripped from my own CDs.

You should get those cassette adaptors that connects to a CD player (or any other auxiliary device) so you can take your CDs on the road

That's what I do. Sounds great, and I have weeks and weeks of music on just one disc when using mp3 discs. ^_^

I have to admit, those mp3 players are so cool!
but i prefer my md player cos it gives me control over the sound quality by hooking it up through an equaliser and filters ^_^

I chose mp3 player basically for the fact that's it's just faster to put music on to and it's smaller/lighter than the others. however... i still like my old cassette player

Silentscreamer, this is what I do, I hope it helps~

Anyway, I like to rip in a variable bit rate (VBR), with a low of like 92kbps and a high of 224kpbs. This means that it will use the lowest bit rate needed to give you a high quality song in any particular part. Like, a simple noise that can be compressed a lot without quality loss gets a very low bit rate, while sound that needs a high bit rate to be clear gets a high bit rate. It will make the bit rate fluctuate, and the song will only be slightly larger then 192kbps, but will sound *spectacular*! I first did this with Ayu Trance 2, and the difference was easily noticible on my car stereo, and have ripped that way ever since. You can set it for as high as 320kbps, but the files will be much bigger with no real noticible gain. Don't go any lower then 192k, though.

If you want a good player and have cash, get yourself an iPod or one of the other hard drive players. If you want a good player for cheaper, get one of the MP3/CD players. I think the RioVolt is the best to me in that catagory, and less then 10 cents per 700mb disc is a *great* price. ^_^

Oh, I forgot to add an important thing: Cheaper players sometimes won't play VBR, so make sure it's ok before you get it. If you want good quality at a steady bit rate, 192 will give very good quality, 224 and higher are VERY close to CD quality and you likely won't be able to tell the difference.

Keeping in mind that an Ayu CD can cost $30, I think it's much more preferable then bringing my CDs with me, and it's worth the minimal effort to rip.

And don't worry about morals. Keep not downloading music and rip only your own CDs, and you've done nothing wrong at all, and left your CDs safe at home. ^_^
