Hey! =)... Well, this question is because me and a friend of mine asked me to post this thread. I have many friends who like her a lot, and they have done a great fanbase of gay ppl who love Ayu, at the point of doing an "alternative" party (with music like brit-pop, electroclash, kitsch and j-pop) including a special moment dedicated to Ayu only. So i can agree that people who love Ayu are mostly gay ppl... i think that's a great thing. I've came to this kind of question everytime i see Ayu's looks and compare them to Kylie's and Madonna's. Plus, her lyrics are always something that anyone can relate to its life. So what do you think?? =)

ditto, and anyways, the only people who could possibly truely answer this question is a gay person living in Japan.

Umm..I'm not gay, but I like ayu. But ayu definetly isn't a gay ICON. No way.

Something similar to this was brought up a month ago. Well, yeah, like tl1029530921 said, there's a gay fanbase for every artist out there. I'm straight, yet I like Ayu's songs.

stereotypes are not fun
its no good to stereotype ppl who like ayu as gay, we should all be equal and not worry about whether the fans are gay or straight and also, stereotyping gay ppl as ayu-lovers or glam-diva lovers is not cool, some gay ppl might not like to be stereotyped that way |

I agree Ayu can kinda be considered a gay-icon but not necisarilly. Ayu is for everyone, which is a good thing. Yeah everyone can relate to her words, Im not gay and I can relate to some at times. I have before but because Ayu talks about life in general, issues that everyone goes through. So.. Im not sure what it is, mabey its her style or well i couldnt answer teh question as to WHY a good amount of her fans happen to be gay, but whatever its all good, Go Ayu lol |

i really don't see why ayu shd be a gay icon.. guess there are a lot of artists who have many gay fans... for example, i know a gay guy who simply loves britney (i still think he fallen with his head on some rocks or anything, i mean, come on, britney? brrr) but ok she isnt a gay icon as well i think

I'm a gay, but i don't really think that Hamasaki Ayumi is a homosexual icon. I bet there's always straights, bisexuals, gays, lesbians love her...

Music is for everyone and generalizations are bad.

I think the icons are a different generation. Madonna's older as are Cher and Bette Midler (I dunno how you spell her name ^^;; ) They have little in common with today's mainstream pop music.
