Critical about Ayu

I've been an ayu fan for a long time and I've been on this forum for a long time, but recently I've become less and less interested in Ayu. I just copied all my Ayu cds I have to my new lap top and I got back in to the Ayu groove. I love her older songs and looking at her career, I think she's hit a creative slump. After the & single it seems like everything is starting to sound the same (especially the My Story album.)

To all the new fans, are there any new songs she has done after the my story album that are worth listening to? I havent even listened to any new Ayu songs after the my story album. lol

thanks

I have to say that for me, ayu has hit a kind of a slump, i feel like she's losing more and more of her individuality and not taking any chances on original stuff lately. when i saw her sing about you at music station with tears in her eyes i really believed it, whereas in the heaven pv, i feel like its not genuine. maybe its just me - maybe ayu's not changing, maybe i am..

hmmm.. i've been her fan for pretty long already, since loveppears was released. Yes, I agree that her older music is better cos I feel that her music has very different styles from other singers and each single is different from the previous one. Personally, I feel that my story is more of a rock style and some songs really sound the same. haha. but i really really love her new song Pride. Maybe you should try it, cos it's a totally different style. ^^

Well, Stephen, HAPPY ENDING is a good song from My Story. It was much better when performed live, though.
And that's it. Everything else is crap.

Just listen to everything to find out which you like and dislike.

Personally I liked MY STORY Classical, is this LOVE? HEAVEN, Will, and Pride.

STEP you, Is this LOVE? and Will are good and kind of different.

alterna, HEAVEN and Fairyland are good for a listen sometimes, but they sound too much like everything else she's done before.

I liked the songs from the "I am..." period and before but I still give her new music a try. Although her newest stuff isn't what I would call great, I will end up buying the new album.

I do think "Duty" - "I am..." was her best era.
Though, she's still come up with great songs.

Some songs i would highly suggest:
Moments~
PRIDE~
Alterna~
fairyland~
HEAVEN~
etc.

Well it does depend on what are your tastes but I found this year's releases quite satisfactory.

I am really pleased with the singles she has released this year and I look forward to her new album! I think that she's really trying to branch out in terms of style and she's at a creative peak right now.

I agree. I loved all her singles this year (with the slight exception of fairyland). She's released a good variety of different styles this year.

actually, Rainbow and Mystory are my favorite albums
I loved all the songs on Memorial address.

Happyendying, hope or pain, liar, honey, are fantastic. I've been an AYU fan since 98 and I buy all of her albums. But honestly, I don't like the Loveappears cd very much. All the songs on there sound the same to me. the only song I really like from that set was Song for XX (which I love)

I feel the same! The situation is critical-I don't want to order "(miss)understood" and I won't order it! I think it's a waste of money, still, I haven't heard other songs in album, but from singles all I like is "HEAVEN"! Am I a bad Ayufan?

I've been expressing the same sentiments since Voyage came out. I really didn't like Rainbow, My Story, and if the trend continues i'll probably really despise miss(understood). The title alone sounds very cliche.

I've also been a fan of ayu since like LOVEppears. But I think her music is WAY better now. She's now trying all these new styles. She has rock/metal and even a reggae-remix of "STEP you". And Bold&Delicious is a gospel song. It's good to have all these styles. Imagine if she still made the exact same music as in her old days. You'd get bored. At least now you can listen to BOTH her old and her new stuff, cos it's all so different.

And her voice is much better than it used to be. It's so mature and definately fits her rocksongs. And besides, she's actually more stable now. In the old days she'd sell 700k with a single (ie. VOGUE) and she didn't even get the #1-position. The fact that she now always gets the #1 position (even with the low sales of B&D/Pride at like 150k) prooves that she's actually more succesful now. She may not be a big hype anymore, but she's more stable at getting huge hits nowadays.

I think the new album "(miss)understood" can be better than the previous albums. For "MY STORY" Ayu had to create 13 tracks in a few months. The result is that not all songs are much anticipated, some have no promotion, and some songs may be rushed. But this time Ayu worked so hard on her singles that 8 songs of the album are already single-tracks. That means 8 songs are already highly promoted and she concentrated on those tracks. And of course we get 2 songs with a PV and a title tracks. So Ayu concentrated on making every track a good, anticipated track.

and besides; Rainbow was just about a full POP album. At least MY STORY and (miss)understood include Pop, rock, electronic, gospel and more styles.
