[2007] Ayu in the Classroom

Today we had a culture day in my Japanese class since we just finished up a chapter. (I go to college, btw) Both the professor and the assistant are Japanese natives, so they decided to make takiyaki (sp? yuck) and play Japanese music videos. Needless to say, I was stoked, and hoping for Ayu action.

Come to find out that the assistant had taped the last NHK Utagassen and was going to show select performances. Oh boy. It started off innocent enough...Ai's performance was awesome, we watched a little enka...DJ OZMA slipped in there SOMEHOW...and then she showed Ayu. I had completely forgotten about the Bo-Peep dress...although I had anticipated a bad vocal performance. (Which, IMO, I got, but I digress)

Can you imagine that nobody who already knew Ayu (read: one other person in my class) was that impressed? Oh well. I was still gushing about her, and managed to get one of my classmates to borrow my CDs to try out.

So here's the discussion: has Ayu made it into your classroom? How, and in what medium? Did anybody care? =P

YES! YES! YES!
COMPLETELY xDD

I'm explaining xDD :
In 2004, our English teacher asked us to do a project about music and an artist =)
So I've decided to choose Japanese Music, because then I LOVED anime's introductions/endings [Pokémon, Sakura Card Collector, Fruits Bascket ect xD]
Well, while looking at the internet, I found Enka, J-Rock, Visual and... J-Pop!
At THAT time, I was soooo into Britney/Evanescence/Beyoncé/Shakira era~, so choose J-Pop =)

J-pop > Wikipédia > Queen of J-Pop > Ayumi Hamasaki
Humm.... interesting =o
Who's that girl ??? Must be perfect for the J-pop as she's the queen =3
And then I found some articles and informations =)
I presented the whole project in English [My 1st languages are Arabic & French by the way =p], and people at first were like "uh! Japanese music! nyanyanya"

Then I showed them an extract of evolution at DOME TOUR 2001 [My reaally 1st Ayu vidéo ever xD]
Some were interested, some were "Japanese Music ? O.o Nooo waaay~"

1 mounth after the project, I decided to discover more Ayu songs, my 1st Ayu song was "still alone", my first Ayu release was single "CAROLS" ect...
I was printing all the Panasonic posters xD [Remeber the STEP You one xD I've showed it to like... All the High school I swear xDD]
I was SOOOO EXCITED I was talking 100% about Ayu *.*
"Oww that haircut looks like Ayu's one" "Do you imagine how many CD did she sold ? =3"
Then I was burning some AudioCD to the whole class, printing pictures, bringing some vidéos to the class, giving exemples at school with Ayu xD
I was like a crazy, and I think that's why others were more interested...

Today!
Not everybody that I know LOVE her [My cousine HATE her by the way =__=]
But I can assure that EVERYBODY KNOWS her, 100% xD
Not any one didn't heard the name "Ayu" "Ayumi" "Ayuuuuu" during these 2 years, and I'm happy xD
Some call me "Mr.Japaaaan", others just "Ayu" (They surely don't know her, just heard the name xD)
I'm proud of that =3 Now I can tell everybody about Ayu, I can listen to Japanese music without those "Uhh~ O.o;;;" =)

PS : Sorry because it's too long or lot of mistakes, but I like coming here to practice and discuss, just even read your messages, I enjoy it ^^;"""

I let my Japanese teacher borrow my Fairyland single and we watched the DVD in class once. Everyone made fun of it (but the only people there that day were crazy kids^^). Whenever my teacher talks about music or CDs she always says 'who's your favourite singer chelsea?' and I always reply Ayu^^

me:
We have english speaking test during highschool, one of the project, I have to team up with a friend and do a dialouge/forum etc., anything, just discuss about things you like/dislike, well, the only thing popped-up in my mind is of course Ayu xD During the speaking exam, my partner talks about how she likes Korean dramas and I am all hyper and excited talking about Ayu XD We didn't come to a conclusion at the end, but we got fairly good marks (yay!), and the teacher commented that we are full of passion that's why she gave high marks XD

Now, I am making my friend to make Ayu website for her semester assignment XD I got her to listen to <SECRET> and now she's an Ayu fan too \(^_^)/

my other friend who is studying Japanese now: her teacher always uses 'Ayumi-san' (Ayumi Hamasaki) and 'Takizawa-san' (Hideaki Takizawa) in examples and exercises, just to gain student's attention during class, so everyone in the class SURE know Ayu XD She even shows them Ayu's vid~ I so want to go to her class XD

I wish she has. But at the same time, I would hope not because I can't imagine myself raising my hand saying, "I'm a HUGE fan of her!" I'm very shy and wouldn't be able to handle everyone's eyes on me like o_O

BUT I found an Ayu FAN in my class! I sit diagonally from a friend a year younger than me in my math (geometry) class (let's call her Stacy) and we're good friends and all, and, here she is, sitting here, chatting with me since the beginning of the year, and all this time I never knew she was a FAN!

And Stacy's not like my friend (let's call her Mary) who sits in front of me, one who has seen her videos and CMs and knows her name if it's brought up. No, she actually has her CDs and listens to her (daily?)!

It all started with me asking Mary what the date was. "Is it the 28th (of Feb)?" "Yeah..." she responds. "Wait, the 28th?" I muse. "Yay! My favorite singer's new CD comes out today!" "Oh, really?" Mary replies. "Who?" "Um, you know that Japanese girl I like, Ayumi Hamasaki?" "Oh, yeah," she responds. "I'm a fan of her too," says Stacy, ever so calmly. "Nuh uh! Really? Ayumi Hamasaki?" I ask clearly. "Yeah, I have, like, all of her CDs." "No way! Ahh!" I exclaim quietly as I hug her.

So I was asking what CDs she has and what songs she likes (she loves WONDERLAND). I'm sorry if I'm getting over excited in my post, but I've never met a fan in the real world before. Nothing against you guys, I mean, yay for you being a fan, but I don't "know" you guys (in real life), you know what I mean?

^Totally.

Yeah, the assistant kept pointing to me and going "AYU GA ICHIBAN SUKI DESU!" (Ayu is the favorite). Annnnd then she got my name wrong, and the whole class laughed. And the two of them kept going on about how Wentz from WaT is hot. And we all made fun of ORANGE RANGE.

Yeah, DJ OZMA...people actually could've cared less until the assistant started talking about the controversy about it. (Which I had forgotten about) Nobody could understand why people would've had a problem with the costumes. (They all had this idea that Japan was super...open, I guess?) But, lol, I could see it.

Well not really the classroom, but in my high school we were repainting the halls and or principle decided we should paint some good quotes up above the lockers. Based on wataru's translation, I convinced my group to put up,

"Even though you'll never be perfect, you shine in your imperfection," from the song TO BE. For the record, of all the quotes on the wall this was the only one that was said by a nonwhite, nonmale, nondead person. Pretty neat if you ask me

Yeah, not really Ayumi in the classrooms, but Ayumi in the schools is close enough right?

In my freshman year we had to do this show and tell thing for Italian class. We had to bring something in and talk about it in Italian. I brought my Rainbow CD. My teacher was really interested in it, and she really liked the cover! Afterwards she asked me if I wanted to put it into her CD player to listen to it. I said no though cause I knew it would probably annoy my classmates.

If I tell someone from class that I listen to Ayu and that she`s from Japan they would laugh to death! Yes, they are idiots -_-" But I showed her to my friend, she is all crazy about her right now^^

no offense but...that quote has always come across to me as cynical (though it really isn't) like some saying "even though you'll never pass, at least you tried i guess", and if i saw that above a locker with inspirational quotes, i would probably giggle.

hmm back in freshmen year, i did my speech project on japan or something and passed around memorial address, because some people couldn't believe "japan actually makes pop music??!". i can't remember anything else...
