I always go with Kanji unless it is the artist's name, or unless the title of the song isn't like that on the original cd. Anyways, it helps a lot with being able to read kanji because once you know the sound of that symbol you will be able to read other songs with that symbol.

for me, i put both artist name & song in kanji form. XD i used to put it in romaji, but having the name in kanji really helped me with recognizing Japanese characters!

i just got done retagging all my stuff for WMP on my laptop. XD
This is my rule of thumb: I tag the title as whatever the official tracklist says. The PPN Wiki is pretty good at replicating this. Because even some "English" titles are represented in katakana by certain artists. |

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I prefer people tag in kanji regardless of their understanding of Japanese because it keeps all the songs more organized, but on the other hand I don't think you should tag something that you won't be able to read or comprehend. I tag in kanji because I'm studying Japanese and it speeds up my mastery of kanji (not to mention I dislike romaji readings in general when reading Japanese since one word can be romanized different ways) but for those who aren't learning it can be confusing.

Since my study of Japanese has ben abandoned for a year or two while I pursue other languages and until I go there to teach for a year, I leave all my songs in romaji for simple comprehension. I have my Korean, Russian, Thai, Hebew, Arabic songs all in roman letters too, so I just like to be consistent

^ Me too! Although I study Japanese, I prefer to have my titles and artists names romanized, because I don't speak Korean/Chinese/Russian etc. (and therefore cannot read those titles/artist names in their original script). I like all to be consistent, and also in (English) alphabetical order.

eh, I like having them as kanji, or however they appear on the CD. EG Ayu's "Hana" doesn't use the kanji, so I won't. But Koda Kumi's "Hana" does use the kanji, so I will.
and, people are very anal aboutt ags on Last FM, so I would use it according to the official tracklistings ^_~ |

That's a good question! I always use kanji when the songs are written in cover/tracklist like that. It's really good because I've learnt many of them reading the titles of the song! However, there are times when I use romaji but the 90% of my songs are written in kanji.

I can go on for an hour in google just to look for one song by Emiko Shiratori that nobody ever heard before, for the right kanji/title/cover art, etc. Yes, I'm very anal when it comes to this tagging.
Although I recently left 3 of my Persona OST CDs in romaji due to...eh, comprehension purpose. I finally made up my mind that I should left my Game/Anime soundtrack mp3s on romaji if I have like the whole CD since it's very confusing.

If you can read the Kanji/Katakana/Hiragana, you should put it like that. If not, it's best to stay with Romaji, or else you might not recognize the song~

However you prefer to read it, really. For me, the more complex, the better. Good practice. ^__^
