The CAROLS swing scene

Does anybody know why this scene was cut from the final PV?

They apparently built this huge crane that could swing the camera vertically around ayu, spent a day out on some field filming the whole thing with ayu singing on the swing, only to cut it in the end. Seems like an awful waste of money

But hey, If you want to waste money, that is a fantastic way to do it, to say the least.

actually it wasn't shot very perfectly. that huge crane's shadow accidentally was also appeared in the shot. dunno why they didn't just edit it...

maybe the director after the edition thought that CAROLS looks better with a nocturne (night) atmosphere, and that swing day scene don't fix with the others shots...OR...maybe that movie roll got damaged.

Haha who knows.

Usually the directors do storyboards and test ideas before the ones who pay for it all (avex) greenlights the different parts of the project. I doubt they just try out all different things because "maybe it could look cool, if it doesn't, we just won't use it".

i remember reading somewhere that part of the reason why it wa cut was because ayu's hair was quite messy in that shot. they were all over her face, due to the strong wind, and it wasn't a pleasant sight to be in the pv

^ yeah. it was due to ayu's messy hair due to strong wind. And also they saw quite a lot technical faults in the video like the camera could be accidentally seen in the video.

And also, shadows of the equipment can be seen casted on the ground and it wasnt very professional. So they decided to not use it.

I think it would have been nice and shadows could easily be removed in post production using CGI etc. so it was probably for a ery good reason that made it impossible to proceed. I imagine other sequences have never made the final cut from Ayu's videos its just we were lucky enough to see it this time around in the making-off. Ayu and co. obviously thought a lot of that sequence and wanted viewers to be able to see it in some way so I imagine its being cut was something regrettable to them and, as I said, for a good reason. Perhaps, depite having an Ayu-sized-budget, they met with financial constraints in terms of editing that sequence or something.

The reason why it wasn't in the PV it's because there was a storm coming so they had to go from that place and they didn't have enough time to finish shooting it and they had to keep on the schedule, so yeah, that's the reason why it's not in the PV

I thought the stormy clouds looked really cool actually. If it was the hair.. she could have just turned around on the swing and have the wind against her.

cause its natural? (to have hair running all over your face due to wind?)

I was always wondering as well. I'd have loved to see this scene in the PV, even with messy hair. I actually like messy hair

"messy hair" and "camera shadows can be seen" don't sound very good reasons not to use the clip to me. >___> I think messy hair and stormy clouds would have made the scene very cool, but apparently not.. Maybe this was supposed to be in the place of the merry-go-round scene? But then something went wrong and they did that carousel thingy.. I dunno.

The whole Carols PV was a waste of money LOL just kidding

It would be nice if it could've been on the final PV, since it totally lacks of emotion.

I would have liked this PV to be more emotional, and less....boring

all we can do just questioning, but the decision is up to ayu, the PV is already out 3years ago and we all loved it, didn't we?
