What's with Green?
So I've been watching the Green pv, and i don't get it.
![]() It starts out with ayu rushing through a crowd, then there's guys with painted fingernails dancing on the sidewalk... Then two guys start dancing, and ayu ends up dancing with a cross-dressed woman (is that Midoring? a connection with "midori" and "green"?). The whole thing just seems so unlike Ayu and random. Is it all because of this new director?

@_@ one of the reason why i dislike that director so much, but i remember that AyUmIXx had an analyze of the PV and it made sense to me~

I didn't understand it much either, and that was a really good interpretation by AyUmIXx.

Theres a story in there somewhere but because of the incompetence of the director we dont really know without it needing a massive interpretation like above

Thanks, that's a good explanation. I still don't like this director though lol. The pv's are too hard to understand just by watching them, unlike her older ones which usually make sense after watching it twice.
@micster: yeah, really XD The whole guys dancing thing and nail paint still doesn't make sense though, lol, unless that was just something the director really wanted to stick in there XD.

I really like Green pv, is one of my favorites from Ayu,and I never had problems to have an understanding of it
BUT, when we are talking about interpretations of a video, a painting, a movide, a drawing... it doesn't really matter what the artist intented to mean, your personal meaning to it is the most important (if understating exactly what the director wanted to say, videos were released with a text saying what they were about). So, nobody interpretation is wrong, cuz there is no right way of understanding it To me, it's an awesome video... just not very mainstream as Ayu's videos use to be |

I agree with Andrene...I've always understood GREEN. I love it and personally don't think it's bad directing.

I agree with both Andrenekoi and Furashubakku.
Art is about interpretation. True artists always try to represent sth in their works. But it's up to the audience to decide what they tried to represent. That's pretty much what semiotics is about. In my case, i do think the PV was about homosexuality. But w/e. That's just MY interpretation. People will always complain about ayu's works, but, as long as i like it, i'm fine with it.

good analysis by Pommy. But i still find it weird over the choice of Midoring representing ayu's love. LOL.
But i dont really care so much because the PV looks artistic enough. |

ah no problem! if it wasn't for AyUmIXx, I never would've thought about it~
it's good that other people can read AyUmIXx's analyze, it was probably lost in the GREEN discussion thread~

Well, since so many people understood the PV, I have a few more questions:
What was with Shuya and that other guy dancing in the background when they were showing Ayu backstage? And what about the part when she's walking? If she's supposed to be such a huge artist with no freedom in the PV, why doesn't anyone notice her then?

^ Althought that's not personally how I see the PV...I'll try to explain.
The world Ayumi is living in in GREEN is basically a fantasy world. She can walk around the streets without being hassled, she can be with the person she loves. And the same would apply to the males. But also at the end we see Ayumi sad, because we see that she isn't living in a perfect world. Her leaving at the end into an empty street to me symbolises her loneliness. Also it could be extended to homosexuality...for the majority of the PV she's living in the open, she's being with the person of the same sex she loves, surrounded by people who're "like her" but then when it's time for her to leave once again she's all alone. Which is how many gay people feel. ![]() That's just my intepretation. I've also heard rumours that GREEN's PV is based on a Chinese film called Lust, Caution. But you'd have to decide for yourself what you see. ![]() |

You don't really need to find a meaning to EVERY little detail on a video (or image in general) in order to understand it... sometimes a scene is there just cuz of its feeling... sometimes just cuz it's pretty...

^ yep, for example the scene with the guys dancing in the streets, well, at least I cant find a meaning for that scene
