How did you discover J-/K-/C-music?

So here's an interesting question that's hopefully not been posted before...(if it has than mods, please delete). So yeah, I'm interested

J-music: As for me, I discovered J-music through Fatal Frame II...the ending theme was by Tsukiko Amano and it was called 'Chou' (which btw is an awesome song). Well, that was in 2003 when I had a really old/bad cpu so I wasn't able to really d/l it or anything, but it definitely sparked my interest for J-music. So a couple years later I got a better cpu and I decided to look up some people here and there -mainly anime music that was sung by nobodies . I discovered how to d/l and yeah, I started d/ling all kinds of anime music. Well, one day I was bored and decided to look up some artists who sang anime openings/endings and I was like 'Oh yeah! What about that one girl who sang those two endings for Inuyasha?!'...That was Ayu lol. I had sampled her music a couple times before and thought it sucked (other than 'Dearest', 'no more words', and '(miss)understood'), but for some reason when I looked her up I found a buttload of her trance remixes and fell inlove with them. In fact, I thought that was all she was xD! Well, I learned soon after that she was actually pop, but since I loved her trance so much I decided to give her original material a try and it quickly grew on me. After that the rest is history...I basically discovered J-music through Ayu and Tsukiko and after I joined AHS, I found out about a bunch of other J-artists, and the list continues to grow. I still like some American music (which is my home country), but most of it lacks the pizazz that J-music has IMO. For me, the Japanese took western music and reinvented it .

K-music: I only like a couple of K-artists so far, but I discovered K-pop through Lee Jung Hyun, which btw, a user on here was the one who brought my attention to her lol....even though it was on a different forum. But anyways, yeah nothing special for this section at this time. But I'm keeping my eye out for more interesting K-artists.

So I may seem a little biased but hey, we all have our preferences lol.

I discovered Japanese music in elementary through all that anime music. But anime music aside, what got me into J-pop was w-inds. My friend (Satsuki) sent me their song Paradox and I would listen to it on repeat for days at a time. It was like the best song in the world as far as I was concerned. Soon after, I downloaded their other songs and got hooked on them. Sometime before that, I did download a few of Ayu's ballads (back in like 2002) but I never got into her. A few years later, shortly after the release of Memorial address, Satsuki showed me some of her PVs (ANGEL'S SONG, ourselves, Greatful days), so I bought Memorial address. After that, I decided to download like all of her songs and became absolutely HOOKED on the songs from RAINBOW, and then my fandom began... blahblah the end.

Sometime around or before the time I was getting into Memorial address, I randomly decided to download some Chinese MVs to see if I liked anything. I thought pretty much everything I downloaded was the most boring music in the world until I saw Pirates by Jolin Tsai. I downloaded some more of her MVs, bought some of her albums, and the rest is history. I still don't like C-pop though, just Jolin.

I never really got into K-music though. I liked Super Junior for about a year, but I've fallen out of that phase.

Utada Hikaru's "Simple And Clean" played on a commerical to promote Kingdom Hearts and I loved it sooo much, I frantically searched the internet to find out who the singer was. After finding out it was Hikki, I went to iTunes and checked out her Exodus album. I absolutely fell in love with "Animato" and "The Workout" so I checked out the "listeners also bought" and that's how I discovered Amuro Namie with my 1st song from her - WANT ME, WANT ME. Then youtube pretty much took me from there as I discovered artists such as Ayu [through Bold & Delicious, which I love to death] and Kuu [BUT, JUICY and Selfish, which are all amazing]. Even more iTunes checking and youtube and watching forums introduced me to other artists that I have grown to love.

My 1st BoA song was "Midnight Parade" and I loved it so much that I did more youtube searching for her music. I didn't know she had Korean music at the time but I made the discovery and through related videos, I found Lee Hyo Lee with "Anytime," a song that I love. I don't listen to much K-Pop but Lee Hyo Lee is awesome forever and now I LOVE Meilin's "How About Tonight"

I was exposed to Japanese music when I was like five from anime and at the time I went to school in a area that was dominated by Asians (Markham Ontario!). My first J-pop album was by Bonnie Pink. I was watching a old show called "YTV Hit list" where they did a special on Japanese music and Bonnie Pink's video for Private Laughter really stood out to me. I remember seeing the video for Puffy Ami Yumi's video "Boogie Woogie #5" when it was being promoted here too :3.

I went on asian music hiatus for like four years until I heard Koda Kumi's BUT which got me hooked on j-pop ever since @_@.

As for C-pop/K-pop when my brother went on a trip to China gave me random cds (Kelly Chen and this other girl...Cecelia Chung?) and when I was in grade 7 I went to school with a guy from Korea who got me into some K-pop artists.

I discovered Japanese music during a phase of mine back when I was 12. I'd see what my friends were listening to on their recent journal entries on Livejournal and try to find the song to see if I liked it. Interestingly enough Ayumi was the first Japanese music I heard, and the song was 'evolution.' I liked it a lot, so I kept at it and slowly through the years my interest broadened.

Also on Livejournal were several Asian music sharing communities that branched not only into Japanese music but Korean and Chinese, so... it's through Lj, really, that I got into any of those types of music.

Um... for Japanese music, when I was about 7 years old, my cousins came to America to finish their schooling, (Yoshinori and Mami), and basically they influenced me into liking Japanese music. Yoshinori... generally liked American music, so he didn't help, but Mami brought so many CDs that she owned to America, and her father (my uncle) would tape shows/dramas/anime for her and send her even more CDs and magazines and stuff... and she basically influenced me. But like... during my late Elementary school years, with Tom Punks, I was generally more interested in anime songs than JPop songs. @@ It wasn't really until 6th grade that I became more interested. Especially with Hamasaki Ayumi's I am... and Do As Infinity's DEEP FOREST.

With Korean music, I don't really listen to much now. And I did like Super Junior for a while, and I still like FT Island, but that's basically it. I like K but mostly his Japanese songs. Anyway, I don't really remember how I got into some Korean music. I think it was mainly because I wanted to listen to something that wasn't Japanese.

The same goes for Chinese/Taiwanese music. I wanted to listen to something that was different, so Tom Punks, Mami, and I looked around some site at some random artists and shalalala!

I discovered it when I was 17 I think and I had started listening to ZEEBRA. My friend gave me some issues of Popteen and I saw the music articles in there so I downloaded some. I had already knew a little about AYU, but didn't really start listening to her until recently.

^^ Yeah, I got into Amano Tsukiko thanks to that song (and thanks to Satsuki). The album it's from, tenryuu, is like... the awesomest album ever made.

Satsuki, if it wasn't for you, I might never have liked Japanese music. Thank you. :')

The first Asian artist I ever listened to was Lee Jung Hyun, who I had discovered when looking up information about Korean music online after going to a store at the mall (now closed) that sold all sorts of Korean toys, stationary, and CD's. I had been curious about the music but didn't want to buy a CD without knowing what the artists sounded like. I found LJH on YesAsia because I really liked electronic/dance music (and still do), and eventually ordered her first four albums from Annyoung because the store at the mall didn't have any of her stuff. I haven't really listened to any more K-pop since, though.

As for J-music, I got into some Shibuya-kei and Japanese trip-hop (ACO and Cibo Matto) because my tastes naturally led me there. I decided to check out J-pop after randomly finding the Time magazine profile on Ayumi Hamasaki. After Ayu, I soon discovered that I liked Namie Amuro, Utada Hikaru, Otsuka Ai, and Suzuki Ami.

The only Chinese music that I've listened to is Jolin Tsai, but I liked it and wouldn't mind finding more.

A friend of mine had Utada's "Devil Inside" performance from M-Sta I think on his MySpace page... and I really liked it, so I downloaded EXODUS. I eventually really fell in love with her Japanese stuff, too, and from there I branched to Ayumi. I think after Ayu I got into Koda Kumi, and then into some K-Pop. Later I discovered Amuro Namie and Suzuki Ami, as well as some rock stuff that I really enjoyed like UVERworld, Remioromen, BUMP OF CHICKEN, Mr Children and Kobukuro. I really got into K-Pop, listening a lot to Big Bang, Rain, SE7EN and Minwoo, and a little of Jolin Tsai from C-Pop.

Jpop

well with Ayu, there was a website with her for layout and I thought ''wahh she's beautiful!''
but I didn't know her name. after a bit of time I saw something about a person called Ayumi Hamasaki, the queen of jpop. I checked on google image to see what she looked like and I saw it was the same person. So I downloaded a bunch of song, the first one being Real Me
and I was addicted at the first listen. After that I started listening to Utada & Boa but I stopped after a while. I discovered Kumi. At first I didn't like her image but Best ~ss~ made me change my opinion. and after I discoever Sifow, SOULHEAD, HITOMI etc.

bold & underlined for Prussian

Kpop - I discovered a thread about wonder girls and decided to watch their recent PV
