Random asian music finds in western media

So..in the last days, I found quite much J-Pop in western media, so I was wondering if that ever happened to somebody else?

For example, a few minutes ago, there was Utadas Flavor of Love(or is it Life? xD I forgot...) on a german tv programme about the most downloaded songs EVER

Then I remember a documentary about a turkish girl in germany that fell in love with the singer of some visual kei band and went to japan to see him...it later turned out the show was scripted(which was pretty obvious at some points xD for example the girl not knowing any japanese but still managing to survive in japan without problems for two weeks and visit a concert AND get backstage)

I also found that J-Pop seems to be very well known amongst gay people xD I found 3 different mentions of J-Pop in gay forums in the last few days(T.M.Revolution, Perfume and Ayu)

well Ayu's GUILTY (the song) was used in a TV commercial here over a year ago. the commercial was about an upcoming tv programme, which had nothing to do about Ayu or music in general.. the song was just playing in the background lol. I was like "wtf?" the first time I saw it lol

Namie's WANT ME, WANT ME was played in Americaīs Next Top Model lol

and last year, with the olympics and all, one of Jolin Tsaiīs songs was played alot on TV because there were alot of programmes about China on tv around that time, and they all seemed to play the same song by Jolin lol (canīt remember which song it was)

Tokyo Drift was used in the movie XD It was by the Teriyaki boyz (WISE, VERBAL). And it seems to be quite popular among everyone.

I remember seeing Kumi Koda's name printed in a bunch of newspapers during the Live 8 period. A list of who was performing where. I kept the page that had her name on it

^ It's because the Teriyaki Boyz are catered to the Western (specifically US) audience. They weren't really created for the Japanese audience. That's why that song was in the soundtrack, and why they've done collaborations with people like Kanye West and Pharrell, and why they have Western producers.

I've never heard any Asian music over here, besides a few times whenever I'd be skimming through T.V. stations and happen to pass the credits of an anime, which usually keeps the Japanese theme. My husband claims to have heard a few people (I think Ayu and Mika Nakashima?) on a special cable network or something, but I've heard no such thing, lol.

i heard the instrumental of utada hikaru's WINGS in a commercial once. and in an itunes or something music related commercial, they mention "japanese pop music". plus, a channel on my TV airs j-dramas (from FujiTV) so i hear music from those openings or endings, too. but then there's also anime (like BLEACH. they air that on my TV, too). so that's basically my only exposure to jpop here. it freaking sucks, lol. i wish i saw PVs on my TV too bad the japanese TV package on my cable network is too much money (and my mom would also not let me get it anyway ). they have MUSIC STATION and MUSIC JAPAN
