Crossroad PV similar to Eminem's 'Love the way you lie' PV
Hi guys.
I'm sure some of you will have seen Eminem and Rihanna's "Love the way you lie" music video. I only saw it recently and the fact that the girl and the guy catch fire and slowly get covered in flames instantly reminded me of crossroad. I just checked and love the way you lie was released in august this year, so less than two months before crossroad. If any one knows when ayu shot her crossroad PV, please feel free to tell me, but I can only assume it was after eminem's PV was aired. Apart from the aminem PV doing a much better job of the fire eeffect and the burning, does it not annoy anyone else to see such 'lazy' PV making? I'm not suggesting it was Ayu's idea, maybe it was, maybe it was the director or whoever. Maybe it was just a big coincidence, but I somehow doubt it. Anyway, I just want to say, I usually really enjoy ayu's pvs. I think they are well thought out and have interesting ideas and messages. So to see what appears to be a lazily ripped off idea, executed rather less impressively, is a big disappointment. Anyone know anymore about this? what do you all think? PS. I Love ayu ridiculous amounts, so don't accuse me of hating. I was just disappointed by the idea that one of her PVs was mostly a rip off. I'd expect her to not allow that.

I think the two PVs and songs are different enough that while yes, they both involve combustion, the things they symbolize are so different that I really don't have anything against Crossroad.
Also, if you're really eager for some real/non-lazy pyrotechnics, don't forget Ayu did do fairyland ![]() Anyway, I'm not gonna stone you for thinking they're similar, but just a heads up, this thread could go down a scary spiral, just based off what i've seen in other threads of a similar nature... ![]()

Even if the songs are very different, and the symbolism of the burning is different, the fact that it's so soon after just makes me think that someone said:
"wow, cool! they caught fire! that's awesome! Why don't we do that too!" :/

Everybody is copying everybody You have got a point. The burning is quite similair. But that's it. If you know more Ayu PV which are for you a lazy 'ripping off' then you should be disappointment or annoyed.

I don't see any connection with Eminem's video specifically... I mean the flames thing is pretty overused anyway.

The symbolism, totally different, the theme of the videos, totally different. Eminem is not the first to do something like this anyway. Everyone copies everyone. Ayu takes inspiration from other artists and puts her own style/flair to it. This has been the way it is in the music industry for YEARS, Western, Japanese, whatever.

Anyway, it's not a big deal, I'd just like to be able to credit ayu with another interesting and original PV, but the LTWYL PV means the credit has to be somewhat less than I had first thought (I saw crossroad PV before I saw LTWYL. I was like "OMG she caught fire!!!". Then I saw LTWYL and it made me think "Oh. she got the idea form here did she?" Just made me be not quite as impressed as I had been.)

I don't see why people can't grasp the idea that someone being slowly immolated is not an original concept in the slightest and just because it was in two music videos that came out recently doesn't mean jack.
Vinushka by Dir en grey featured people covered in black liquid hunched over and trembling while the vocalist sings about wanting to forget. Ayu's MOON PV featured her being slathered with icknast black stuff for a good thirty seconds or whatever, and some think that symbolizes her desire to kill memories. Should we be disappointed about this? Absolutely not. You know why? BECAUSE IT'S NOT A RIP OFF. These are thematic concepts EVERYONE uses.

so before dir en grey who had used the black liquid thematic concept?
and since then? just ayu? and the people on fire? who else has used that? there's always gonna have been a first, and to justify your statement that they're thematic concepts that EVERYONE uses, I think you need a few more examples. Otherwise we have an originator, and then a redo. I'm fine with her redoing concepts, right now I'm just challenging your statement.

^Superfly also had people on fire in her PV for 'Dancing On The Fire' which came out over a year ago. Also I think that crossroad was wrapping up filming at the time that LTWYL's video was released but I could be wrong.
