Voyage 4th in JASRAC music royalties collection top 10

According to the BBS, Ayu's Voyage received the 4th largest amount of royalities from Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC), an organisation which collects royalities on behalf of record labels from Karaoke, Mobile Phone ringtone and CD/Video sales.

The chart's top 10 includes 亜麻色の髪の乙女 by Shimatani Hitomi, also from Avex label, and Sekai ni Hitotsu Dake no Hana by SMAP.

　日本音楽著作権協会（ＪＡＳＲＡＣ）は19日、2003年度の携帯電話の着メロ、カラオケ、ＣＤなどから 徴収した著作物使用料に基づく分配額のランキングを発表した。

　上位５曲は１位がＳＭＡＰの「世界に一つだけの花」、２位がアニメ「ドラゴンボールＺ」のＢＧＭ、３位が 島谷ひとみの「亜麻色の髪の乙女」、４位が浜崎あゆみの「Ｖｏｙａｇｅ」、５位が中島みゆきの「地上の星」 。「亜麻色―」は前年度も３位だった。

　ＪＡＳＲＡＣの事業報告によると、１年間の著作物使用料の徴収総額は約1094億7000万円で前年度比 約３％増。ＣＤの生産実績が不振でオーディオディスクの徴収額は５年連続で前年度を下回ったが、ＤＶＤの売 り上げなどが好調で、全体では増加につながったという。


According to the report, the background music for dragon ball Z is in the 2nd and the total amount collected in the year was 109.47 billion yen. Although CD sales has lead to the 5th consecutive year of decline in Audio Tax, but DVD sales has shown good increase and lead to the overall 3% increase in collection.

The charts covers a lot more than just Disc (audio/video) sales, it also covers Karaoke, ringtone download and other services/products/radio or other public broadcast. So the ranking do not necessary reflects actual sales. Also, the ranking can be different because of other source of royalities that pulled the overall figure up, one example is 亜麻色の髪の乙女 by Shimatani Hitomi. Her single/album didn't sell well compared to other big names, but this song is damm popular in Karaoke (I still remembered that my host in Miyasaki sang this in Karaoke back in end-2002)

「亜麻色―」は前年度も３位だった。
So it's not very surprising that this song can still stay at the 3rd position compared to last year's chart.

JASRAC=RIAA in terms of collections of those fees to have a clearer picture.
