Remix and mix?
I've just been looking at tracklists, and I got to thinking... what's the difference between a mix and a remix?
They seem to be virtually the same thing (SEASONS "so happy so sad mix", SEASONS "Dub's Rain of duv remix"). They're both different versions of the song, right? I'm just not getting this. Any help would be appreciated... that is, unless I didn't make sense. :x Thanks! |

There really isn't a difference. Usually the "mix" is the original and the "remix" is the re-mixed version of that original mix....
The two words are often used interchangably though, most people would say there isn't a difference. I hope that made sense, I don't think I've ever tried to explain that one before O_o

To further explain, the name of the mix is chosen by the remixer. And as you can see from Ayumi's remix albums, there are some pretty funky titles. ^^

Well a mix is usually the original song, different mixes have a few alterations here and there in their melodies but the overall song is not changed drastically. An example of an album full of mixes is A BALLADS. Remastered songs or with new vocals can also be considered mixes.
As for remixes, they usually kinda change the song drastically, by removing parts, by altering the vocals, the beat and the order of the verses/chorus. I might be wrong but so far that's what I've noticed.

I think only a remastered song would be considered a mix, not new vocals... that's a self-cover.
mixes: TO BE "Original Mix", "Album Version" (not labeled), "2003 ReBirth Mix" A Song for XX "Original Mix", "MILLENNIUM MIX" monochrome "Original Mix", "Album Version" too late "Original Mix", "Album Version" appears "Album Version", "'99 Greeting Mix" SEASONS "Original Mix", "2003 ReBirth Mix" Boys & Girls "AUBE Original Mix" (from the single and LOVEppears), "New Mix" (from A BEST) etc etc. The subtle-difference ones are just mixes. Same instruments (maybe one addition, but overall the same), just different adjustments as far as what instruments are louder relative to the others, and vocal effects.

but it seems they really use mix and remix interchangeably for the most part. i've always wondered if there was any consistency.
