When you are buying items..

i buy cds because i want to own it, i like looking at my rows/stacks of cds. and i prefer to rip my cds in AAC format for my ipod, at least when my computer crash or anything, i still have the orignal cds.
normally i would get the CD+DVD, but unless i really like the CD only cover, or it comes with a first press that the CD+DVD do not have, i will buy the cd only too.

As for goods, i collect them because i want them, it's that simple.
