First of all, Mimi is not her "alter-ego." It's a nickname that only her closest friends use. She called the album "the emancipation of mimi" because the album is supposed to show more of the real mariah, as opposed to the public's conception of mariah.

Second, she did lipsynch on the Japanese and European shows. She's talked about it before, those places prefer when she lipsynchs...it's nothing new, she's been doing it for a while. On all American programs, however, she sings completely live before it's a bigger deal in the US for singers to lipsynch.
