How does someone tell the difference between bootlegs and real?

How would somemone tell the difference between a bootleg and a real cd.
I was interested in buying a cd or two but wasn't quite sure because of the chance it might be a bootleg.

Honestly, I think it is a very silly idea to order from Ebay when there are many perfectly good sites that guarantee legit CDs

^ I would argue that eBay is very useful for people who don't need new cds / want to save money and can tell whether or not a CD is real or fake.

Well, most the times buying a used CD can cost the same as a brand new overseas version

But for people collecting, they would want Japan versions and those used CDs in excellent condition selling in ebay, is much cheaper than a brand new Japan version CD. not to mention some titles available in ebay is rare. places like hmv, cdjapan and yesasia dun have them anymore. e.g. Fly High, Boys & Girls singles.

There are a few sellers that definitely sell originals, for eg. mindofjapan, dora_ts. There is a specific type of listing in ebay, selling all the CDs at 0.99, or 0.89. THose are definitely bootlegs. even if they're not, they're made in china. and i can tell u the quality even the originals made in china are quite bad...

yeaa me0wie has got it all, u can easily tell, just buy the ones which have the images of the actual cd itself, because most of the bootlegged ones have images of the cover, but not the actual item itself..not to mention most are blurred/look bootlegged already just by looking at the stuffed up covers as item images

Even so, your best bet is to go on Ayu's Official website, and click on 'Discography' there you will see all of her CDs with exact images, also with singles and DVDs also. The only one I noticed was missing is the Glittler/fated single.

There's no point going through websites that show the bootlegs, since it'll just be confusing. Ayu's website is sure to be true and real, so I always refer to that one.

the pictures on the official ayu website is a little small though... heh. you could check out this webby. Thot it was pretty cool. That's where i found out that my Free & Easy was the limited edition one!

As a collector I will ALWAYS pick a NEW-AND-SEALED os version over a USED-(EVEN-IN-EXCELLENT-CONDITION) japan version.

I use ebay only for limited and OUT OF PRINT items.

if you intent to buy from japan xD, i wouldn't buy 2nd hand cds unless seller lives in japan xDD actually, just try to avoid china sellers and ones with no pictures or album art as picture. xD

sometimes... but they will look extremely fake. You can see from the printing and color that its fake.

for those less then $3 items, you just have to check. If it's starting bid price, it coyld be real, but if it's 'buy it now', well 99% are fake....

Yea and a lot of times, they have really random pictures in them from older photoshoots.
