School Project on "protest" songs
Hi everyone,
I am currently doing a school project in english and it's about protest/ powerful and moving songs. I wanted to choose an Ayu song since she has some awesome lyrics but I'm not really sure which one to choose, I was thinking "a song is born" or maybe "M".... Any ideas would be very apperciated thanks |

M and a song is born are good, but IMHO I think talkin' 2 myself, decision, until that Day..., I am... and evolution are a wee bit better choices. Heck, even Mirrorcle World is really good.

How about Ourselves?!
I mean, she literally said "**** you AVEX" and ripped up her A BEST poster. True classic Ayu moment. ![]() But...I guess I'll go with M if you still want to use it!

Protest/powerful moving song? Sounds like A Song for xx to me, or any of her title tracks actually ie. I am... and (miss)understood
That would be the PV, not the song..ourselves isn't about ripping posters and effing avex. It's a love song. :X Last edited by Mitkki; 25th June 2008 at 06:55 AM. |

I like all the choices everyone's suggested so far! :3 I'm not sure if any of these songs would work for your project, but I think they might fit under protest too: POWDER SNOW, too late, End of the World, Free & Easy, Real me, my name's WOMEN, 1 LOVE, and (don't) Leave me alone

you could use my name's WOMEN since it does kinda protest against unfair treatment to women. Or 1LOVE since it's like "don't care what other people think, just do what you want". But I agree that 'a song is born' and M would work great ^.^ good luck with your project

Wow thanks for all the help everyone, sooo many awesome suggestions!!
I agree that "a song is born" would be perfect considering it was inspired by the 9/11 attacks...but I have to present it to a class of "non- jpop listeners" so I dont want a song that might make them fall asleep since they dont know the lyrics ![]() So yeah a song with energy would probably work better. I like the sounds of evolution, decision and mirrorcle world....but I'm not sure what they are actually protesting, is it relationships maybe...?? |

I think Marionette's extremely powerful. Personally, I would use that.

Very few of the songs suggested could be called "protest songs", though. A protest song isn't just "powerful", it is a call-to-action which addresses a societal issue and takes a stand against something.
Ayu is really not very political; her music is almost entirely emotionally-based. The closest things I think you could relate to protest songs would be A song is born or forgiveness. Maybe you could stretch and dissect everywhere nowhere. It tackles the societal issue of becoming too dependent on technology, and how this makes us so lazy that we as people don't even emote properly anymore. Real me and my name's WOMEN both address societal female stereotypes, but neither are particularly calls-to-action. |
