I wouldn't count Hikki to get popular like Beyonce or such, but like I said she might get a few new fans....but I I won't be surprised if she doesn't make it on Billboard...plus omg, Hikki actually has meaningful lyrics FTW

She could be, she could not be. I'm putting my money somewhere in the middle, I think that if she's going mainstream, it'll probably bring her some success. Not a lot, but not none.

I just don't see her commiting in doing all the work needed to break in the US music scene. Haven't recent mainstream breakthrough starlets like Katy Perry & Lady GaGa both been around in the scene for years before finally building enough momentum to really get big, it's certainly not just about getting a "hit" song.
Leona was huge over in UK & Europe before crossing over to the US, she had a lot of support in the US music biz even before her US debut. crossing over to US from UK is not a huge leap, a lot of artists do it in varying scale. I just feel she & her team gave up on Exodus sorta easily, I just don't see Hikki setting aside her career in japan as long as it's going to be needed for her US career. I personally don't think Utada has what it takes for a top 40 hitmaker in the US, but that's just my own view. |

yep. Considering that both Katy Perry and Lady Gaga have number one hits in America and Utada does not, that's not saying much. In fact, this is her third try in releasing an english album in the US.
I'm gonna be optimistic about this. It depends on the promotion. It's too early to call. It could go either way. |

I think what she is doing is just trying to appeal to a different audience, even if you don't like it I think you should be able to understand it. Her lyrics aren't as deep I don't think, thats kind of the only thing I don't like about the sing. I like it better when she sings in Japanese as well and her Japanese songs sound better, but I can understand why she is using this style and I will still support her!.

At least those others stuck with it. Utada makes an attempt, fails and goes to Japan. She comes back 6 years later. She makes another attempt, fails and goes back to Japan. Now she's back again 5 years later.
Will she go back to Japan when this one fails? I hope not. This time Utada has company. There are other Asian artists who are coming out in the US too. I think we all agree that of all the artists coming to the US, Utada has the advantage. She looks good on paper. She knows english. She has a natural accent. She should do well, but she hasn't. When i heard "Come Back to Me", i thought its too mainstream. But i can clearly hear Utada's uniqueness despite every Mainstream-ness the song has. I'm not really impressed but i guess, that is what Utada should do first... Do all the mainstream-ness she could ever do, get attention, make a name... Then do her "OWN" thang!. That's my opinion. XD
And honestly, i hope she'll have a break this time on US Market. I mean, her works will be noticed by a large range of Audience through well-done Promotions... Everything depends on her exposures and the promotions by the company... I know its quite hard for her that's why all we have to do is to support her... crossed fingers... I don't see why people keep referring to "Precious" and "EXODUS" as failures...
We can't really be sure what she would've done to promote "Precious" because before the album was even released EMI had begged her to come to Japan and write in Japanese. She basically just left. It wasn't that she tried to promote it and failed. It might as well have not been released in the states. She abandoned it. I don't consider the start of her American career being until EXODUS. And sure, none of the singles were a hit or anything and the album sold poorly; but Utada has stated MORE than once that she didn't intend for the album to marketed to the mainstream and for it to be big. It was a project to give her the creative freedom she could not have in Japan. Now, she's actually attempting to go mainstream. If she wants to try and make something out of this, I'm very confident IDJ will back her up 100%. She said in the MUSICA interview that all the executives and reps. at IDJ kept asking her "What do you want to do, what do you want of this?" If she tells them she wants to promote-- they will. And they already are doing a lot more with this than they did for EXODUS. A MySpace is a big big step forward, imo. If someone quotes this post, it better not just be the first line. -.- |

^^I've had the same results.
I'm one of those people that hangs out with people from all cliques, and everyone I've showed it to, from all groups of people loved it or liked it. The only people that didn't were the emo/scene/goth kids that refuse to listen to anything that isn't "lyke omg so totally underground" and begin to hate their favorite bands when they got any amount of fame and label them as sellouts. XD |

Her new song is phenomenal. Nice work, Hikaru. For the first time in a long time, I'm impressed by this.
