That's ridiculous dude! Not everbody has the money to buy all of Ayu's stuff and it's not all available anyway. Only Japanese ppl have actual access to her stuff, and it doesn't make you a "bad" fan - there's no such thing. I'm a big fan of lots of artists, and its damned near impossible to support so many singers at the same time. I read somewhere it costs about $8000 to purchase the whole collection - ridiculous of her to say that to you. Completely ridiculous.

hmmm I don't even have any original ayu material... they don't sell it here in Brazil and it's VERY expensive to import overseas... 40 reais an album without taking taxes and shippment in consideration... and to a jobless college student, more than 40 reais is A LOT of money to spend on this... I wouldn't buy singles cause I don't really miss then (most of the time you can get it all in the album anyway), and I don't even like Cds... I preffer mp3, but We don't have ITunes here... Or any other brazilian mp3 store that sells her music...

I support her introducing people that can buy her stuff to her music xD

wtf, i've been a huge fan of ayu for around six years now and i've only just bought my first cd. not everyone can afford to buy/import these CDs. [i could barely afford Days/GREEN cd+dvd] i've downloaded a whole crapload of ayu stuff, all albums, most singles, and a bunch of remix albums etc, most of it two or three times (stupid computer) took a i listen to ayu every day, i've memorised half her songs through pure exposure.

just because ayu is my number one favourite, it doesn't mean i can't listen to other artists. i've been pretty damn obsessed with mindless self indulgence lately. doesn't make me any less of an ayu fan. ♥ forget that chick, if she can't even see your point of view, she's probably not worth talking to.

I find her "fannishness" a little creepy actually. I get periods of time when I listen to one artist nonstop, and I guess Ayu is diverse enough in her discography where you can listen to only her for a while, but I'm just a little at odds how much dedicated she is to one artist.

And Jeff Buckley rocks! I've only heard of his cover of A Broken Hallelujah and he has an amazing voice.

Eh...you do what you can. If that means not being able to buy any of her stuff than so be it. If that girl chooses to support just Ayu that's fine...I won't say anything about her. She really shouldn't judge other people though just because they happen to buy other artists' CDs and whatnot. Owning a whole complete Ayu discography is impossible for some people and that's really not what makes a fan.

First of all,

I didn't know there were requirements to be a "good fan". I also didn't know there were different types of fans. I thought a fan was a person who enjoyed someone or something.

I try to buy Ayu's discography when I have extra money. But, I won't obsess over getting everything Ayu has ever released.

lol, I think the girl you talked to is a really closed-minded fan. There are a lot of people like that, but there's absolutely no reason for you to feel guilty over not having as much money to purchase things as others. That doesn't make you a bad fan at all. I don't have everything that Ayu has ever released either-- only the things I happen to be able to purchase because I had the money or it came out at the right time. It happens.

If you look the amount of topics about other artists on AHS, it's safe to say most Ayu-fans support other artists. If you listen to Ayu all the time, it gets boring, so listening to other artists is the best thing to do.

don't listen to a word your friend said, you are in fact a very good fan, at least you did bought original cd of ayu, compare to some 'fans' who only download but never purchase a single cd.

and there is no rule that being a good fan means buying every ayu's release. god hell, ayu have sooooo many items, i seriously doubt there is someone in the world who have all.

I agree with the majority here, you should simply buy the things you love as long as you have the money to spend on cds. I don't buy tour DVDs cuz I simply can't afford them, and I don't usually buy singles from artists other than Ayu (because I, once again, can't afford them and I kinda promised myself that some day I will have all of Ayu's singles), but I do buy Hitomi Shimatani's and BoA's albums when they're released, of course I'd buy some of Ku's and Otsuka's stuff too if I could. Buying cds doesn't really make anyone a fan of someone~

I prefer to be seen as a bad fan because I don't own all of her but I am open minded, supporting others artists. For my case Ayumi came after many others artists, what should I do to be a good fan ? Stop to listen my others music ? Hell no !
