Her manager (the correct term is producer) is Max Matsuura. And no, he's not in ayu's entourage. He manages a few others at avex also.

i agree with nearly everything but how come utada is at ayu's level? xD i mean both are in completely different pages. utada is more of a casual and ayu is been full on with releases since i can remember, same talking about concerts etc.

if we talk about "diva" ayu and namie are the only ones that fit in that category.


EDIT: to explain myself a little bit better... utada is more of a girl next door, while ayu goes for all the glamorous stuff and things like that. Blond hair, big eyes, heaps of makeup

I haven't seen utada wearing a sexy fashionable dress like ever xD or anything really girly... so yea. She is special in her own ways...

^ What you said about Hikaru is totally true. She may be a huge star, but she's not on that same "level." You probably know, but being a singer wasn't and still isn't her dream. Her parents were musicians, and that's how she got in. So she does love music, but not like, say, Ayumi, who's life revolves around it, and who wouldn't know what to do without it.
And in my opinion, nobody in the history of Japan's music is on Ayumi's level. I've never seen anybody so dedicated AND successful AND long-lived. Plus, she's always trying to add in her own thing, straying from the majority and taking the chances in order to put out something that comes truly from her. Not to mention, she completely has that "it" factor that so many lack. I honestly think she tries to put out high quality work with every release (at least with what she can help--if she has a boring melody, she usually isn't the one writing...), which is not something I can say about 90% of artists, at least.

Anyway.. Looking again at Kuu's cover...... They're both ugly, lol. But I definitely like Kumi's better. :\

There is no doubt that Ayumi is successful, but to say that she is the only one is rude every other major female artist in Japanese music. There may only be a few, but Ayu is certainly not the only long lived and successful female star. (and believe it or not, there are some who are actually longer lived)

anyway, I think Ayu is declining, because her quality (both in photoshoots and in music) isn't the same as before

she seems not trying anything new now, her recent PVs and performances show it u_u

^I agree...it seems like she really loosen up her quality control and let her staff do whatever. I'm not happy with her image this year...the photographs, concert costumes, and her look. Her music and performances are fine...a-nation was great imo. I hope ayu can improve her image and for her next album, make it a longer one...with more tracks and less interludes.

Aa, you guys are misunderstanding me! I'm not saying Ayu is the most famous artist ever, or the most dedicated, just that she has all that and more; that's hard to find in even the most successful musicians who love music more than anything.
And what I mean when I say "level" is that... I don't really know how to say it right, but it's how I look at her; all that she's achieved and how. It's the fact that she's the only artist I've ever known who's so freakin' famous, yet so down-to-earth. So simple, yet completely extravagant. Who never expected it, but her life now revolves and music and she loves that. She has fashion sense, beauty, motivation, the "it" factor... She loves her fans and cares fully about them. She goes her own way. And what really gets me: she has the most typical music, yet the most unique. And she has a quite annoying voice, yet she's become a wonderful singer. She started as nothing - and it seemed like she never would be much of anything - especially fame-wise. And now she's a worldwide legend.
That's why, to me, there's no one like her, no one quite on that "level."
