Even though it sounds crazy, it makes the song a bit more unique. It's not hard to imagine having a mental break down from a bad romance xD; The way she sings it makes it sound like an addiction. Like she's desperate for the person's attention whether good or bad and I think her vocals reflect that perfectly even though, like you, I prefer the demo version.
