That's why I also added that her fans don't seem all that fond of her latest English Release as well. The point wasn't the sales or the quality of work, but that she should probably put out something that her fanbase likes, opposed to something that they aren't all that crazy about and something that wasn't even her to begin with.

True. That's what bugged me most about TITO: it obviously wasn't her, at all.

I hate when people starts all that crappy "this album doesn't sound like this artist! he/she should release something that sounds more like him/her", cuz it always sounds like the person is a close friend from the artist and knows he;she deeply, what we all know, if far from being true...
Maybe TITO doesn't sound the way some people like Hikki to sound, but she doesn't need to sound like her past works everytime to be her... People said the same when Exodus was first released (a lot of people who bashed the album are totally in love with it right now, btw... I find this very strange cuz when it was first released, I really loved it and everyone else seens to think it's the worst music album ever released by a human being) Let the girl do her work... she knows it better than us... that's why she is rich and sucessful while we keep discussing her on internet forums... I don't necessarily think TITO is bad, it's just not on Hikki's level, which, for one thing, is what irritates me. But also because it's obvious that she sold out a bit for the American audience.
And when it comes to somebody like Hikaru Utada - who was born into a rich household with parents already high up in the music industry, who would've forced her into fame even if she wasn't as well liked - I don't think it's fair to talk about how much she knows or how well she earned this or that. Not that I don't think she deserves her success, it's just that we can't pull that card with her. :\ |

Let's not play these technical word games, stating the obvious, like people don't realize that Utada and Utada Hikaru are the same human being. It's as old as the day is young and progresses nothing. Thank You.

Utada worked with producers before... and most of First Love and Distance is produced by american people, and IMO, most of THOSE albums are generic boring music... A lot of Hikki classics like First Love could be released by any generic r&b singer in the world without any problem...
Utada is an amazing musician, but not everytime she is able to put it out well alone (as any other person on the world), that's why Exodus was mostly by her alone, but every album she released after it wasn't --- About knowing how to do her work... IMO Utada doesn't have a clue about how to start a career, cuz it was started for her on jpop... But she always nows how to produce hit tracks for japanese industry, and how to promote herself there... New market, new rules... and she is learning (and leaning fast IMO considering she is totally new to it as a musician, even if she is not as a consumer) Last edited by Andrenekoi; 27th October 2009 at 02:37 PM. |

Exodus was incredible. Experimental, underground-ish and refreshing. This Is The One, I honestly like this album because the tracks are mostly catchy, but that's it. The tracks aren't deep, they're just generic songs. |

^I know! Now everyone loves Exodus. I just don't understand people. When Exodus came out everyone said it was weird and that she should have done a mainstream album. Now she has and people still aren't happy.

^ Oh wow, I hope all that's for sure... *_*
^ ^ I always liked EXODUS, even when it first came out. It isn't her best work, but it still feels like "Hikki," just singing for the overseas audience and trying something a little different. TITO is just a sell-out. So I stand by my opinions. |

I'm of course not saying she's lying, but I wonder how that's possible when her mother was such a successful singer for several years. Maybe she lost all of her money(?).
