Does anyone actually listen to music with a CD player anymore?

^ Is it against the law if I bought the music for them? I downloaded an entire Gundam orgel album off of iTunes for my friend's birthday last month, and burned a CD of it for her. Is it illegal to buy a CD for someone and give it to them? No. I just bought them for her. I'm not offering them as downloads either, and this can happen with a bought CD as a downloaded legally CD, she could always rip it and distribute. But I bought it, and gave it to her. It was a rare Japanese album that was mysteriously put on the U.S. iTunes store, so I snagged it for her. It's not like I downloaded a bunch of stuff from Mediafire and said "Here". If it were as easy as that, why bother? She doesn't own an iPod .mp3 player, so thus she doesn't use iTunes either. I looked around for the album, and I couldn't even find a physical copy to buy. Same with the other CDs I've given to her in the past. Here on AHS, everyone who downloads Ayu .mp3's and albums and other J-Pop artist's stuff, are all illegally downloading music. Some people then re-distribute. Some may own the CDs in real life. If you want to start talking about illegal use and distribution of music on AHS, you'll have a lot of people to say it to. Anyhow... I want to steer this thread away from talk about breaking the law and doing illegal activity.

I thought of another time I use CDs - in the car, especially on roadtrips. In the last 3 years, I've taken about 2 very long roadtrips, one involved actually moving. My family has a lot of cats, so we couldn't quite fly with all them... So we drove a very long way.... And the whole time I had my entire CD collection - albeit, it was very small back then - in the glove box, and playing. Since iPod car adapters are pretty pricy, I always try to keep some of my CDs in the car anytime I go somewhere far.

Well, there are several ways of download legally. What you did is in fact legal in multiple countries, because most consider distribution as a commercial activity, something you clearly didn't do, still I'm not sure about that in the US, and the whole matter isn't completely regulated yet.
Also, if a song or album it's not available in your country, like some underground or unknown J-pop acts, it's not against the law downloading, since there you couldn't buy the music physically (this applies even when you could have ordered the album or buying it online from abroad)
