When I think of pop, I think of madonna, cher, britney spears, koda kumi, namie amuro, perfume, etc. and I couldn't imagine any of them releasing such songs as talkin' 2 myself, game, or microphone. I feel like ayu is venturing farther away from pop as the years go on. Slowly but surely.

We need startin'/sexy little things part 2. XD or at least a video like that. Everything she has so far is emotional, or angry. we need fun!
Ayu has never been the one to follow typical pop formula. She's not a cookie-cutter pop star who churns out dance tunes 24/7. Her brand of pop has ALWAYS been different. And you're right, what makes Ayu Ayu is the simple fact that few of those people you mentioned could release the music she does with such a perfect blend of pop and rock and such emotion. Rock has been incorporated in her music almost from the beginning.

Also, when Ayu did make music with a similar atmosphere of those artists you mentioned - i.e. NEXT LEVEL, she was bashed for it. She had dance music, generic pop ballads, sassy pop-rock and apparently it wasn't good enough at the time It wasn't "polished" as some would say. So she went "back to her roots" as she says and we got Rock'n'Roll Circus. We get rock ballads like MOON and summer pop rock like blossom. POP+ROCK = Ayu. And I don't mean to sound rude when I say this, I honestly don't; but if you're so fed up with it, I don't know why you continue to listen to her music anyway because it's never going to change...

And if it does, I'm sure it'll be a problem for fans because some (not you babe ^^) are not satisfied with anything and they should go back to the cookie-cutters like Britney Spears for generic pop music with no music range what-so-ever.

I agree so much with this. People want Ayu to change and do something new, but when she does they either think it's crap or she's not being herself anymore. And if she DOESN'T change it up with nearly every release people say she's being lazy, she's lost her creativity, she's boring. Ayu fans are overly spoiled methinks
Ayu will do what Ayu wants to do; she always has and she always will.

I really want all of crossroad to leak. The verses sound beautiful in the live rip.

Yeah I agree, she has her style of music, she knows what messages she wants to present, she's an established artist and knows her place in the world of music. Just because she isn't like Madonna who's always changing styles of music doesn't mean she isn't creative and can't be innovative.

My problem is this singles project turned to to be pretty 'meh.' I thought these close releases were gonna be more exciting like it usually is when she releases a single but this whole thing has just been pretty 'meh' for me.

Yes we are. After all, we had years of downright amazing music, that for some of us, actually changed our lives.

But as you said, "Ayu will do what Ayu wants to do; she always has and she always will."

So...only thing to do is go along with it. People can not like things, and people can like things, and you know what, we all have to live with it. I don't really see a reason for people to continue bashing each others' heads in because they can't agree.

It's hard to not be biased in this situation though, because for me, Ayu's music IS and most definitely HAS been different from anyone else's music...I've just never been able to properly define why. Meh...I dont really care.

She doesn't really have a good voice though...so...I mean...

I don't really see how RnRC is "back to her roots" though...more like "Back to MY STORY/(m)u/GUILTY"...I consider moon/blossom, and crossroad as definitely back to her roots though

They sound so outdated lol

Neither do I tbh, but I don't really consider the latest singles "going back to her roots" either, everything prior NEXT LEVEL are "her roots"

your post makes no sense nor does njanjayrp. She started off as a typical pop singer and most of her iconic songs are typical pop songs like boys and girls, independent, and seasons. Most of her albums are mainly pop songs with some pop-rock songs on them. Honestly, just because she uses some rock elements doesn't mean she's any different than most pop singers. YUI uses rock elements in her music and so does many other jpop artists.

Ayu has copied many trends in the pop culture to gain sales. She releases or attempts to release electropop whenever it's in hence loveppears and NEXT LEVEL and her release pattern of bubblegum pop in the summer, and winter ballads is just another typical example of copying the trends.

You shouldn't bash singers for not having range because to be honest ayu doesn't score very high or even average range-wise. I love ayu and all but let's be honest, she isn't the one shining light in the generic jpop scene and isn't the queen of vocals and uniqueness. She's just a pop singer whom we love to listen to and prefer her style. Just because she's not releasing dance/electropop right now while it's popular doesn't mean that means she's unique. There are still a bunch of other singers in japan that sing pop-rock and started before her.

lol no.

But that's a different topic altogether that wouldn't be appropriate for this thread.
