The Virgin Megastore is in Times Square, which sells a fair amount of foreign pop music. The Japanese selection is kind of sucky, though. I wouldn't rely on it to find anything worthwhile.

Other than that, there is a Kinokuniya by Rockefeller Center (49th-ish, between 5th + Ave of the Americas).

I think there is a Book-Off, too. I vaguely remember finding it on a side-street somewhere, but I'm not positive. I don't think they had so much music as books, though (unlike the Book-Off stores in Tokyo -- music up the wazoo).

Edit: Yes, there is a Book-Off! It's right near Grand Central, if that's how you're coming to the city. It's on 41st between 5th and Madison, right across from the NY Library.

I'm looking for a japanese study book called Genki 1 Japanese also, Think Book-Off would have it?

EDIT: Found the numbers to both stores ^^! I'm gonna call them tomorrow!
Thanks so much evolusean!

^ Kino definitely has Genki. I was just there no less than two weeks ago and they had some in stock. Book-off wouldn't have it unless someone sold it to them as a used book.

I don't know any music store near Time Square.

But if you ever passed by the Chinatown, I know where to find Japanese store. I go there every summer, hehe. If you go to NYC's Chinatown, there's a corner that has like... about 4-5 stores of asian CDs. That corner is near the Brooklyn brige. And on Canal street. I can make you a little map if you want, lol.

(EDIT) I think I found a pic of the "corner" of music stores! (yellow and red)

They aren't, none of mine are:

^ the MY STORY, MY STORY Classical, fairyland, ARENA TOUR 2002 and STADIUM TOUR aren't from NYC. They are from here, Montreal, Canada.
