I also read that the portrayal of Egypt at the time didn't have Islam in it.
So it's another reason why the symbol was removed.

I read something about it on Yahoo! news. I kinda just skimmed but I believe it was because one of the guys trying to woo Katy Perry's heart was wearing a necklace that said "God" in islamic. When she was displeased she zapped their ass and people didn't like seeing the word "God" (no matter what language it's in) go up in flames and be destroyed. They painted the necklace out and re-uploaded the video to youtube.

Then again I was late for class and I just skimmed the article and I may be completely off. Someone correct me.

Either way, they digitally removed it, so controversy is over. I liked how colorful and bright the music video is.

Weird that so many people didn't like the Dark Horse video. It's an amazing video! I looooove the colors, and it made this one, the first song of hers I like. So she must be doing somehting right.

Katy made a gift to her Japanese fans and released a new version of Dark Horse with a japanese rapper called TEE. She performed it last night on a japanese music festival called U-Express. I'm very surprised about it, she really knows how to reach people.
