Mariah's in Japan right now, and she's been doing a lot of promo. Here's a hilarious video of her throwing out the first pitch at the Tokyo Dome last week:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5p8jXfiwj8

Mariah also was at the VMAs last night, where she won the Video Vanguard Award, kind of like a lifetime achievement sorta thing. She also performed "I'll Be Loving U Long Time" there.

EDIT: The performance is on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPKRqCt1inc

Mariah + SMAP doing "Hero" and "Touch My Body". What the hell, can SMAP please stop doing these duets? They're ruining my favorite songs.

I saw the interview but not the performence. Touch My Body one is just weird. The interview was very cute.

I thought it was a fun track but didn't think it would be a single choice. Nice!

Me either, they kept saying it was going to be "Love Story" which would've been soooo boring after "Bye, Bye" (which itself was a bad choice IMO).

"Bye Bye" was one of the worst choices they could have made for the second single (only "Last Kiss," "Thanx 4 Nothing," and that song that comes last on the album would have been worse).

"I'll Be Loving You Long Time" is an alright choice (albeit a little forgettable), but I still think the marketing plan should have gone like this:

1. Touch My Body (Big hit, yadda yadda yadda)
2. Migrate (Should have been released simultaneously with the album)
3. I Stay In Love (Beautiful, and it grows on you more and more)
4. Cruise Control (It's dumb, but it would sell as a fun summer song)
5. For The Record (MONEY TRACK!)

Mariah (or her company) are really blowing their chances to keep the album at the top of the charts with the decisions they're making.

Does anyone know what's the font used in the cover of E=MC²? The one where it says "MARIAH", lol.

^I think it shoulda been..

01. Touch My Body
02. Migrate (agreed about releasing this simultaneously with the album)
03. For The Record
04. I'm That Chick
05. I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time
(06. Side Effects - I really love this song, it could be put out too I think)

"I'm That Chick" would've been awesome I think as a single... it started playing when I was in Guess yesterday and I saw at least 3 or 4 people bobbing their heads to the beat and seemingly enjoying it.

I think "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" is a great choice for the third single, though. It reminds me a lot of her 90s lead singles like "Honey" and "Fantasy". It's got that retro feel to it and it's definitely a throwback to her old stuff. I didn't like it as much until I saw this performance at the MTV Japan VMAs. Amazing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXSivQMCu4A

^^

I forgot about "I'm That Chick" --- it might be unique enough to stand out on the charts right now. IBLYLT is an alright song, but it sort of lacks a power hook that will get stuck in people's heads. Maybe I need to go watch that performance.

I also love "Side Effects," but I don't know if that'll ever get released commercially. Same with "For The Record," but I'd really love to see that one top the charts.

My choices would've been

1. Touch My Body (I guess since it got #1 and did well, not my favorite)
2. I Stay In Love
3. Migrate (for the summer)
4. Side Effects
5. I'm That Chick
6. I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time

Side Effects I know would be popular. I did a survivor on another board I post at with about 40 people and it came out on top. Then Bye Bye and then Migrate.

I'm not a huge fan of of "I'll Be Lovin U Long Time". the overbearing sample makes it sounds like a Ashanti song or something lol, it's sorta cheesy.

the singles choices have not been the best possible & mariah's public profile has taken a dive after this whole wedding deal. it's not getting that much of tabloid attention, people are thinking it's either a lame publicity stunt or she's at the verge of a new mental meltdown ...

I agree with you 100%. I actually really don't like IBLULT at all and think it was a horrible single choice. Honestly, I hope it is not successful at all. When songs like that are successful, it just shows other songwriters that it's OK to write mediocre crap like that since not only will you get away with it, you'll have great sales. She's shooting the video in Hawaii right now and my friend is going to try and meet her since she's staying at the same hotel where his friend is having her wedding.

Eh I would agree if you had mentioned a song like Lollipop, Crank Dat, or Low, all of which were crap and sold a billion copies for reasons I'll never understand, but IBLULT? I thought it was great.

Also doesn't remind me of Ashanti at all... I actually get more a old motown feel to this song when I hear it.

It's the same sample that Ashanti used before.

That's because it uses the same DeBarge sample that Ashanti's "Foolish" did. A ton of songs use that sample for some reason.

I'm not sure where you're getting the idea that the public thinks that, but it doesn't look like it's hurting her sales. HDD estimates that E=MC2's numbers were actually up this week, and she's ahead of both Leona and Madonna. She will also cross the million mark this week for US sales.

good for Mariah. I was not really following her sales, I was just talking about the media attention she gets. I think there was more buzz about her weight loss & new image than her wedding.
I think the wedding thing actually hurt her image, it was so bizarre & sudden. but whatever ...

I don't have anything against using samples, but I'd just feel that Mariah should stay ahead of "lesser" RnB starlets and use fresh ideas instead of re-using some played out sample.
building a song around a sample is so Ashanti/Amerie/d-grade RnB IMO.

I'd love Cruise Control to be the next single. something fun & upbeat for the summer would be cool.

I agree with you on that. It definitely reminded me of when I saw her on TRL stripping and passing out ice cream... we all know what happened after that.
