^So, Claudia is a joke mostly because she tends to get everything wrong.
She first appeared on a band called Babado Novo, and once she went solo, her image was heavily manufaturated after Ivete's (even to this day, some people believe Exttravaza is an Ivete song). The thing is, it's not easy to be Ivete. She is known for being funny, smart and to improvise a lot... So, for example, an Ivete interview will most likely be filled with jokes and funny remarks and she turning the tables on the interviewer if the questions start getting off limits. And she feels kinda natural most of time, cursing and talking shit on a way most people would do on her place. Claudia tries doing that and the result seens mostly fake and forced. She will tell a joke on the worst moment possible and will laught alone. She will interrupt a group interview to make a tong-in-cheek remark on a crucial point of someone else's answer, etc. To illustrate it better, 2 occasions where she didn't know she should shut the fuck up: 1 - A DRAG QUEEN interviewer from a LGBT friendly TV show asked her and her husband during pregnancy how would they react if their child was pretty pony~pretty pony~pretty pony~pretty pony~pretty pony~. They answered that wouldn't happen because their children would be well raised. The thing is, as any other pop diva, a good part of her fanbase is made of gay men, what makes her statement really dumb, and even if it happened more than 5 years ago she still trying to recover her image as a gay friendly artist. 2 - She was part of the line-up for the Rock in Rio festival in 2011. As everywhere else in the world, rockers are the most biased music fanbase, and brazilian rockers hate regional genres, so, she (and everyone else that wasn't a rock act) was bashed during the announcements. To makes things worst, her concert was pretty bad... She tried to add rock covers to her setlist in order to get some rock cred, but the rest of the lineup for that day was Rihanna, Katy Perry and Elton John, so... She also tried to add props and special effects, and the final result was attrocious:(please, watch this entirelly )She was booed and destroyed on social media and by music critics, so, how does she react? She says brazilian rockers are like nazis (yeap, she went there) and that people were putting bad singers (there too) like Rihanna and Katy Perry over her just because they are american. She wasn't envited to the festival anymore. Funny enough, one week later Ivete (that was also being bashed before hand, even more than Cláudia as she is a bigger name) performed at the festival and end ended up being considered by the public and the critics (even those who usually bash her) as one of the top performers of that year. Music critics even said she should have performed last and closed her day in Shakira's place, so, the problem wasn't really nazism. --- About Bossa Nova, the genre isn't big over here aside from the legendary acts... But There are new acts that sells mostly overseas. Didn't put them because they aren't relevant over here, but if you wanna something to listen...: Bebel Gilberto (João Gilberto's daughter) Cibelle (she is brazillian, but sings in english mostly... she isn't entirelly bossa nova, but is heavily influenced) --- Oh, we also have a big Rap scene... I didn't post it over here because I believe rap loses a lot of it's appeal if you can't understand the lyrics... But if you want I can post some rap songs too.^^ |

Where are the folk/alternative/indepedent scene of brazilian music? We have a lot of relevant bands on those genres that are frequently performing in music festivals.
This folk band is called Vanguart, they gained a lot of space on music festivals when a single of their latest album was used as the opening theme of a soap-opera. Vanguart - "Estive" (I've been) Cansei de Ser Sexy, also known as CSS, experienced a moderate sucess on the international music scene but since one of their members, Adriano Cintra, (that was also the main composer), left the band on their last album they're having troubles on keeping their fans. Due to the controversy within their members, all their music videos shot on the period that Adriano was a member of the band were taken out from YouTube. Their style flerts with eletronic and pop/rock music. So here's an audio from that period. CSS - Let's Make Love And Listen To Death From Above Banda do Mar is the new favorite band from brazilian music festivals. They performed on the 9th Year Anniversary of my uni and are playing on Lollapalooza next month. They're a mix of rock and folk music. Banda do Mar - "Mais Ninguém" (Anybody) Mallu Magalhães is the vocalist of Banda do Mar and before forming the band with her husband and an old friend she had a succesful solo career. Here's one of her last singles before Banda do Mar period. Mallu Magalhães - "Velha e Louca" (Old and Crazy) Here's an indie brazilian singer, Mahmundi, she's from Rio and her music style flerts with eletronic music and lo-fi. Mahmundi - "Calor do Amor" (Love's Heat)
