I actually vaguely remember this being a concern back when the video came out. It kind of shocked me, but by that time, I had mostly stopped watching her PVs anyway.
Anytime I find a video of hers to be uncomfortable, I just pretend it doesn't exist, like XOXO or WARNING. I think those made wayyyy more uncomfortable than Lady Dynamite. I honestly think the most shocking part of LD were the costumes...XDD |

I do remember some Japanese fans not liking the song. But during rock and circus, the song grew on most due to the spectacular performance.

I think the Japanese fans concerns were lyric based.
Homophobia is not that present here. Not to say it doesn't exist, but culturally there isn't as big a stigma against it. Plus it was comically presented. That entire video is almost a parody lol. It's completely over the top. Lyrically though it's quite... meh? Like, she was known for deep lyrics and the lyrics were not deep at all lol. Personally if you're ok with a girl displaying her naked body for an album cover, and young woman depicting prostitutes and a flood of "milk", I think two men staring at each other in a bathroom shouldn't be that big a deal lol. And the tour performance of it was, for me, one of the highlights. It really got the crowd jumping~

^ The lyrics argument is valid but it's not like it was the very first time her lyrics weren't deep? I mean Sparkle lyrics aren't deep either.

^ I agree, but Sparkle also isn't very highly regarded in Japan either haha xD it was far more popular amongst the international fans

The only real complaints I heard back then was that the video was too fun/meaningless, but those complaints were also directed towards the lyrics being too casual (I feel tokyoxjapanxfan already covered this better).
Nick from eneabba was the only person I remember really doing something about being against the message of the PV. He returned a few years ago to speak about this when someone asked about the website, and pretty much stood by his beliefs. There were likely 2-3 more people who said homophobic comments but nothing stands out in my memory. It'll be hard to find evidence of that in old threads since anything that veers into homophobia/hate speech is removed. |

I'm actually a little bit too lazy to search for it,
but I had a discussion with nick some years ago here on AHS... He was really mad about my honest words towards him. Shortly after this discussion he changed the "official reason" why he stopped updating... His original reason was definitely homophobic shit... Anyway... I can't remember Lady Dynamite PV getting a lot of hate... I think it was just overshadowed by Sexy little things/Microphone and Don't look back PVs.

It was literally just him being homophobic, saying stuff like there are questionable scenes in the men's bathroom etc and he will no longer support Ayu because of it.
I mean really. Who doesn't consider Ayu a gay icon anyway? |

I do think the lyrics are pretty ok for their purpose of being a empowering song for women and (after the video) gay men. It's pretty much saying "we are going to live our lifes as we want, even if thats bothers you", what is not only a good message for those kind of songs as also a recurrent lyrical theme for Ayu.
Or did people had problem with the wording, like in Sparkle? |

Yeah, this sound like homophobia to me.

I remembered back then when Lady Dynamite PV was released , the only thing I remembered from that time was the remarks nick made & they were quite insensitive
I didn't joined in the conversation cos I know things would get bad as some people on here can get very opinionated Ayu is a big LGBTQ supporter & champions such rights a great deal . Even the staff she works with , some are gay as well Anyway yes it's true that Lady Dynamite PV was controversial to some extent but for those who don't want to watch the PV , you can choose not to . I mean some of Ayu's recent PVs are so bad that I only bother to watch it just once & that's it End of the day I don't think the PV is the main reason on why 'many people' lost interest on Ayu , it's a myriad of different factors which EndOfTheWorld listed some of them down & I feel Lady Dynamite PV is not 1 of them

The worst part of Lady Dynamite was that orange fur coat...!
I remember eneabba completely overreacting to it and as one of the best resources that was a shame but if he is homophobic then he is best out of the Ayu fandom. |

It was sad to see Nick from eneabba leave like that, but I respect his decisions.
and Lady Dynamite is awesome period. Bye Felicia to those who cannot accept it. |

Yeah, I've been following Ayu's career closely since the release of glitter/fated and I don't remember many people being mad at Lady Dynamite for its LGBTQ theme. As many people already mentioned, that text from eneabba is purely Nick's personal reason behind his loss of interest in Ayu. He already explained himself saying that he doesn't support that "lifestyle" and doesn't like that Ayu "promotes" it in her music videos.
