So I still think DEEP RIVER as her best album.
Yea...Deep River was hella good album but I do find myself avoiding a couple of tracks.....Uso something something I Love You! (Bleh, I don't like that song at all.) but First Love was excellent...no flaws at all IMO!

Well.. lots of people don't really like Distance because there's a comparison (First Love). I didn't feel it as good as First Love (even now). My feeling is that First Love was written by a passionate 15 year old hikki. She just wrote what she wanna express. Distance on the other hand has a bit of calculations inside. And I dun really like the album songs inside. To tell you the truth I was quite disappointed when I first listened to Distance (even tho it got the highest first week sales EVER in Japan history... 3 million copies on the first week.. and I was one of the 3 million LOL). I even listened more to A BEST during that period.
The only track on Distance I had a problem with was Parody. It's just kinda hard to enjoy...but other tracks were very good but not perfect like First Love. As for A Best, I haven't really listened to it. IMO, it's kinda hard to get into Ayumi especially if started with her doing her (Miss)Understood days (like me). I mean your bound to be attracted to her today songs rather than her past songs.

I was relunctent to listen to her because I was and still is a HUGE Hikki fan and I felt comparing nor putting any singer against her was an offense to me, her fans and her. If it wasn't for a friend of mine who was a HUGE Ayumi fan, I prolly wouldn't be into Ayumi as much as I am no. I mean, I only listened to like 3 songs of Ayu for like year before I really getting into to her which took off a little slower than normal. As of now, I've prolly listened to 20 of Ayumi's songs and there mostly her singles. I just don't have that passion for Ayu and I do with Hikki!

Quote:
DEEP RIVER do have such feeling as well, but at the same time she gave a different exploration of music. It wasn't as R&B as the previous two, and the music arrangements (as well as her vocals) were like at the best of the era.
Mhmm....Deep River was definitely her BEST experimental album. It ranged from Pop to R&B to Ethreal (If I'm not mistaken). But I'd say that Kiriya Trilogy PVs gave Deep River more hype than it already had...as least it did for me. Its sad that Traveling, Final Distance, Sakura Drops didn't recieve any airplay because they were really good radio songs...maybe it would have recieved more sales than it achieved! XD I did wish that Hikki had did at least one more R&B song for Deep River.....A.S.A.P was my fave non-single track on DR but it could have used on more!

Quote:
ULTRA BLUE is another passionate album. I feel like she's doing her own music. If the people like it, they will. If not, she doesn't really bother. That's how I feel her music direction at this moment. If she cares I guess she would not release that kuma song.. It's cute, but at the same time it's quite silly .
I LUV ULTRA BLUE...but as someone on here has said, you have to be in the mood to listen to UB. The only song I don't have to do that with is Keep Tryin'.....I luv luv luv that songs. UB was good but not better than Deep River. And for the love of sanity, I hope Hikki doesn't make her next kuma song...a single!!!

WOW! I TALK TOOO MUCH!

Well I started to like ayu mainly because of her LOVEppears and A Song for XX songs... at that time I didn't know ayu and I didn't know that those songs are older lol and revealed her newer songs later and loved them a lot too XD.
Many people start to like ayu or because of older songs or because of the newer songs or both actually ^_^.

I will agree that Deep River is hikki's best album (along with Distance) lol!

I wouldn't call it a syndrome... I think of it as a preference. There's no way you could listen to an artist's full discography consisting of 4 or more albums in one go and say you have formed objective opinions on every song.

ok, since utada's being lazy right now, and there's not much to talk about, i wanna post this fun fact:

my sis has this hello kitty music box, really cute. it's shaped like one of those old record players, with hello kitty on the record.

i was listening for a while, then i got my first love cd

i listened again....

then i saw the little plaque on it

IT WAS PLAYING IN MY ROOM <3 (actually, this was years ago, but i thought i could share it with you guys XD)

COOOOOOOL! I LUV IN MY ROOM! I actually thought that should have been Hikki's next single off of First Love. I mean, Hikki performed it several times which she had sung it really well live.

I imagined the PV would be that the camera goes up a set of stairs and in to Hikki's room where she is sitting on her bed. From there, she starts to sing...the camera semicircles her and then goes counterclockwise. As the song fades, the camera backs up towards the door and when it backs out the doorm Hikki waves and closes her door!

Wow, boring huh? XD (I don't think it is! )

you forgot kuma-chang!!

speaking of pvs, isn't it odd that she only has pvs for single songs, and none for album songs? =(
she should also release a cd+dvd soon, instead of those bulky UH dvd collections =(

also, since people are arguing over utada's peaks and such, i suggest this!:

everyone relisten to utada's albums. all of the ones you have. nonstop. i don't care if you're dying or whatever, DO NOT PUSH THE PAUSE BUTTON (ok, you're allowed to, just don't switch songs in the middle of the album)

then give a review of the songs =3 each and every one

i'll start off with first love (after hwk T.T)

She did a PV for Deep River but that was it! :sad I agree with you on the CD+DVD release too. She needs to get with times when it comes to releasing her cds. But I suppose since Hikki doesn't go on enough tours or do concerts that it's only logical that EMI releases the UH clips to milk money off as much as possible.

Yea, people definitely need to relisten to all of Hikki's albums. They'll start to appreciate her voice, her music, her pvs....and so on a lot more. Hikki does take forever to release stuff but that's okay because I'm still hooked on her pervious albums and single songs. Believe it or not, on her Exodus album, I rediscovered her song Tippy Toe. I am sooo addicted to that song...again! XD

Another thing, Hikki is NOT with Avex! God, she isn't going to release like 123! SO be patient and quite all the whining about that. She doesn't release songs just to get a quick buck or that EMI forces her too. You shouldn't rush masterpieces anyway. Besides, Hikki has already put a prominient mark on the Japanese Music Industry and did it without shedding clothes, 'nuff said!!!

Yea, I'm anxious too but I believe that Stay Gold will have a little more by the following week or so. I think EMI or Hikki hasn't said much about it is because of the Shampoo CM hasn't aired yet (I think) plus Hikki prolly is gonna make a b-side song to Stay Gold.

I'm not gonna front and say that I'm not getting a little irritated with Hikki and EMI teasing us with the song though....they might need to move a little faster if they (EMI) don't want the song to lose any hype that it already has received.

One more thing, Hikki needs to make a PV for this new song or single. If she doesn't any disappointed or angry fans, she'll do the right thing and film a 'PV'!!! And would someone please, stop her from posting in her blog at Kuma! I wanna scream! I'm surprised that she hasn't started a children's clothing line with kuma as the little mascot! XD

oh god, that'd be interesting XD

ok, first love review!!!:

1. automatic - this song struck me in the heart the first time i listened to it. i remember when i first got my cd i brought my player to church (when mom had meetings) and i just played this on repeat for ever and ever and ever and ever...
2. movin' on without you - nice upbeat song, interesting too =3...i can't really say much after that
3. in my room - at first, i thought it was just an ok song. then i discovered my sister's hello kitty music box. it has a special place in my heart now (right next to the scar automatic gave me XD)
4. first love - my first hikki song...i think that pretty much sums it up =3 (my first cd got scratched =( so i asked my aunt to buy a new one for me XD how spoiled...it scratched on the first love part *sniffle*)
5. amai wana - the chorus is interesting...once again, i can't say much for this song...though it's kinda just there for me =\
6. time will tell - nice song to relax to. not much special though =( i feel guilty XD;
7. never let go - i actually did NOT remember the melody for this song till i relistened to the album again XD;;;;;;;
8. B&C - cute song. i really like it. alot
9. another chance - see never let go
10. intelude - cute...i might use it for my phone as a ringtone XD
11. give me a reason - honestly, the only thing i remember about this song would be the chorus XD
12. automatic (johnny vicious remix) - love it. i just do. love love love it =3

all the songs that i don't remember the melody for, they're NICE when you listen to them, but i mean, they're kinda forgettable otherwise *cringe*

overall, the album's very nice. i liked revisiting the 'past' =3

In the STAY GOLD preview Hikki sounds as though she's struggling to do a vibrato.. don't you think so LOL

I think she always struggle whenever she does vibrato... Just listen to Can You Keep A Secret?, and you will know what I mean (I got goosebumps in the first time when I heard the radio preview of CYKAS?... Her vibrato is just... too weird). That's one of the reasons I didn't really like Distance, as she's like tryin to prove that she can use vibrato. I'm so glad that she dropped this habit in DEEP RIVER...

It's just a personal point of view, but I dun think you will love the old ayu songs. I will use RAINBOW as a separation between her old and new songs era. Her recent music is so different compared to her old ones. To be honest I dun feel her soul within today's music at this moment. Not that I hate the songs (actually I like the songs in Secret), but she doesn't have magic like before...

I know I'm going through that stage again... During her I am... to RAINBOW era, I didn't really listen to ayu music at all. Yes I still played her music, but not like 20 times a day in her LOVEppears/Duty era. Then I overcame this situation when she released &. Now it's coming to a point that I dun play her music that often. (To tell you the truth.. I dun even know if I have heard talkin' 2 myself for more than 50 times since the release). But I guess now I've come to a point that I will buy her album anywayz no matter what (as I didn't buy I am...).

On the other hand... I dunno.. hikki's changing music so often as well, but somehow I feel like her songs have soul... The only period I forced myself to listen to her music is during the release of the Distance album. Once FINAL DISTANCE came out I was back to her music again..

Edit: I think I went a bit off again LOL. I quoted your message because I wanna talk about how wonderful ayu's songs during LOVEppears/Duty era.. But mind you, her music was much darker during that era. It would be hard to love her old works all of the sudden if you haven't listened to them yet.

I wanna do a review of First Love as well! Here it is:

1. Automatic - This song is wonderful! Its lyrics are so touching and so cute. The composition as well makes for a great R&B song that was perfect for Hikki's debut.

2. Movin' on without you - This song is so fast-driven and really portrays what the song's emotions are all about really, really well. Also, it's really great to dance to! It's a good revenge-type song that I think is stronger than, say, "Since U Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson.

3. In My Room - This is such a chill song. I love how relatable it is to high school crushes and such things...it certainly brings back memories. It's really a nice head bopping song, don't you think?

4. First Love - Every artist I listen to has a song that makes me fall in love with him/her, and this is the song that did that for Hikki. This is such an emotional song, and I think it's so amazing that she wrote this at such a young age. The melody, the lyrics and her voice are all enough to make me cry.

5. Amai Wana~Paint It, Black~ - I love the intro to this song and how her fast-paced vocals follow it. This is the type of song I'd listen to on a roadtrip or something...it's so fun to listen to!

6. time will tell - This is the sweetest song on the album. The lyrics are so inspirational and uplifting. It's definitely one of my favorites from this album.

7. Never Let Go - I like the intro...and the music is very calm and chill. It's almost a sad song, because it's about not wanting to lose someone. However, I never really got into it as much as all the other songs. I still think it's pretty good, though.

8. B&C - I love, love, love this song! The lyrics are wonderful and the message is so sweet! I recommend watching her performance from her Hikaru no 5 tour.

9. Another Chance - This song is wonderful, and it really keeps the mood since it directly follows B&C. You can really feel Hikki's emotions in this song and that's what makes it so wonderful for me! I love listening to it.

10. Interlude - This is a really good interlude to set the mood from the previous fast-paced songs to...

11. Give Me A Reason - The intro is beautiful! This song is a perfect finale. It really displays the mood and the theme of young love that permeates throughout this album. It's one of my very favorites.

So, what did you think? I really want to listen to the other 3 albums now and review them. But I'll leave that for another day!
