Besides her first relationship, they all seemed messy to me. Maybe with the exception of Tyson, but even he had some drama when Ayu was at some event. I even find Timmy to be a source of drama lmao.

This happens most likely because her fandom is an endless font of drama. Mostly over silly stuff or even nothing.

It helped that she barely ever said anything about Tomoya and was never really seen with him compared to the relationships that came after. That said, she was more about "private is private" in those days compared to the Twitter/social media Ayu after 2010.

I do find it odd that she was in a relationship with that man for what 7 years and we barely know anything about it...
But her last 3 we know basically EVERYTHING.
But I also feel like she had something stable for so long she was just experimenting with the other 3. Just wish she didn't run off and get married every 5 seconds.

I don't know what's the point here but is posting pictures on Twitter or Instagram or been seem holding hands exposing too much?? I don't think Ayu really exposed a lot of her relationships to us (besides posting pictures with her love one just like a normal person do).

Mannie was featured on her music video before they date, the photoshoot he did had nothing to do with her, the only thing we knew about them was pictures kissing and walking on the airport. For me Maro seemed more like a model she used on PVs and album covers more than "I'm gonna make a lot of stuff with the love of my life". It could be anyone tbh lol But the guy was a mess.... And with Tyson it was very private relationship. We never even knew how she communicated with Mannie and Tyson. So I don't think her relationships were that exposed as a lot of people like to point...

that's right! only thing she ever did was telling her TA fans some details about her relationships (that she is dating, getting married and divorcing). She never was like "this is how me and my man live our life".

i'm so sad she ended up divorcing Tyson they were so goodlooking couple. Mannie and Maro did not look good imo.

I think most of these comments originate from Maro being featured in the mini album covers, which was right after Mannie was in her music videos (and her divorce being referenced in a music video from Party Queen, iirc?) Although Ayu has always been an artist who has been very personal in her work, I think the sudden blatancy was a surprise to say the least.

This also came at the same time as Ayu joining social media openly and posting often. It went from zero to one hundred really fast in terms of how much she shared with her fans, and it was within the same era of her including romantic partners in her work. It was a breakneck 180 from her past standard of 'private is private' so I think there is a lot more to it than people just overreacting to a marriage news notice.

Personally... I think Ayu went through a really hard time post-2010 and it showed in her work and how she approached communicating about her relationships at the time. She changed a lot of her core points about how transparent she was about her private life and Party Queen's release in 2012 also explored a very dark, lonely theme which I don't think was just shook off after the album itself. I like Ayu being open, but I feel her oversharing in the past came from her feeling alone, and her being more in control of what she acknowledges now is because she feels more comfortable again in her private life and boundaries. But I'm just assuming of course

Both of them were at the peaks of their career, and Avex aside, Johnny's is an incredibly controlling management agency. The relationship was secretive in part because it had to be -- the whole idea of boy bands, and to a lesser extent pop stars, is that they are accessible. In Japan, especially at that time, they were viewed as an "ideal mate" -- even if there was no possibility that some girl would end up dating Nagase, the "dream" was there. Having either of them publicly acknowledge a relationship would kill that dream, and thus part of their popularity.

I think the relationships that followed were with more "average" men, because it allowed Ayu more freedom in the relationships as it relates to the public eye. And to anyone who thinks she over-shared, I would really question if you understand the dynamics of a serious relationship. Because, trust, we know very little about her intimate life. Maro was an anomaly and became heavily featured in everything (but as a character, as part of the plot -- not as an individual per se). But other than that, the most we really get are some sightings of her with her man at the airport or some event together, MAYBE a random picture or two on Instagram/Twitter...but even Tyson, you can probably count one one hand how many pictures she has shared. And we still have no idea why they divorced, which is pretty telling.
