As ayu fans, it's easy to have ambitious predictions for sales...
but over 400,000 copies would not be low sales by any means at this point in the Japanese music industry. Don't forget: Koda Kumi is the only female artist that can outsell ayu right now in Japan.

I don't think Ayu will even have more than 20 albums possibly.

And Kumi Koda's sold more than 500,000, but never in the first week (and the time she did, it was her BEST album).

I think the album will get at least 500,000 in the first week. I hope it sells over 2mil.

I said I hope though.... I think Ayu is long overdue for a 2mil album. Plus, (miss) understood had A LOT of advertising. It's definitely possible I think, but that all depends on the fans.

Yes, if it doesn't sold at least 500.000 in the first week, than I'll be REALLY worried. I mean, all of her four poorest selling albums (A Ballads, Memorial Adress, My Story, A Song for XX) sold over 500k in the first week.

I Am.., Duty and A Best first week sales are bigger than My Story total sales -_-'

But I don't think it's possible for her to sold over 2 million copies, I mean, the advertising the album is getting is not that big. The flyers on Shibuya are nothing, every big japanese act does that.

well 500,000 isnt really kumi's standard. shes only done it once, and that was w/her BEST album. Best~first things~1st wk sales > total sales of "secret". but i do think its guaranteed ayu will break 500k when oricon comes out w/its newest sales' numbers nxt wk, it mite possibly break 600k as it was released earlier, giving it more time for increased sales.

Well lets all pray that it breaks a million. This album has all the most cracking singles of the year. If I Am... could do it, Miss Understood should be able too.

Um.... when an CD is released at this time (new years) oricon combines the first and second week together... expect the figure they give us to be around 750k. First AND second week.

BTW, koda kumi can't outsell Ayu. Remember that that was her BEST album and a 2CD+DVD. Her next album probably won't stand a chance against Ayu's other albums. To outsell an artist, you must constantly do it. A one time hit does not mean you are the only artist who can outsell that person, because any other artist could also get a one-time hit.

yeah My Story didn't sell as much as ABest and the other 2... but you think that was a few years back before downloading became 'so' popular... alot of people did it then... but right now it's 'the thing' to do... alot of people don't buy cd's anymore! mp3 players take up way less space.... your cd's don't get scracted and ruined.... and you don't have to have a GIANT book to store them in

I do hope Ayu breaks 1 million though! This album is so good! She deserves it! Go Ayu!

Good point there.

I kinda expect kumi's next album will be another hit (if not a big one), which will contain all the 12 singles and may 2 or 3 new tracks. Her 12 singles have already made a massive hit in Japan, so why not the album as well? The one after, however, will be kinda like a determination of kumi's success.

no matter what I hope (miss)understood first(+second) week sales will be at least 700K...

off topic: i don't want kumi's 12 singles on the new album, except the 3 non limited (you,No Regret, Someday/BoysGirls) and promise, star, butterfly and flower.

I hope ayu can oversell her MY STORY album then i'll be happy

Does anyone know if the CD or CD+DVD versions sells more? I'm guessing the CD+DVD, but does anyone know by how much?

also off-topic: Consider 'butterfly, promise/star and flower' singles to be the singles leading up to her best album release.

I don't think they'll appear on an original album unfortuneately
I also hope her 12 singles DO NOT appear on an album, imagine how cheated all the people who bought the limited singles would feel!

CD+DVD's tend to sell more I think... I'm not very certain though, however for artists such as namie amuro, her singles tend to sell better than there is a CD+DVD version. So I'm guessing the added DVD version sells more. People in Japan aren't poor after all (I mean like, they didn't have to spend $100 on dinner with me 4 nights ni a row They are soo nice!!

With regard to Koda Kumi, I personally think we will see the singles resurface on an album of some kind... because it makes no sense to me for the record label to invest so much money in PVs, production, and promotion of the singles if they were going to limit the amount of money they can make off of them with the limited editions...
and die-hard fans who are buying these singles won't feel cheated at all... they'll buy it up anyway.

I would also argue that koda kumi right now does have the potetial to outsell ayu... afterall, she did sell more CDs in 2005, and the 1st of her 12 singles, "you", certainly is selling much better than the "Bold & Delicious/Pride" single, which fell like a rock from the charts.

but anyway, for most artists, yes the CD+DVD version sells more
