I think it's too soon for this album. That's mostly because I consider Second Session an original album masquerading as a "best" album. I won't be checking this out until next year.

Also, too many singles, not enough new tracks. It SEEMS like a lot (Avex is putting one over the fans again), but the regular edition has only 5 new tracks. You have to be lucky enough to bag a limited edition copy for the additional 2 new tracks.

Ah well, I shouldn't be suprised. I should know Avex's marketing tricks by now. Well, good news for the Koda Kumi fans around.

Of course she won't. She wants to make it dead sure that she wins the Gold Disc Grand Prize twice in a row! (Poor KAT-TUN, they almost had the tiniest, tiniest chance). I can only hope hope hope that Jacompa will be more fair when they give out the Record Taisho at the end of the year.

^? what do you mean? I don't really follow after Kuu's tracklisting on albums. Ayu's never released a 2DVD+CD set has she? Or do you mean something else?

no ayu never released a 2dvd+cd set. She did release a 4 dvd concert set before. I think the biggest album package would be (m)u with the extra photobook.

yea I have a feeling she will win all the big prizes like last year..although I would like to see someone else win this year. If she wins again this year, I wonder which song will win...maybe yume no uta? the songs released this year so far don't really stand out in my opinion...maybe cherry girl will be better?

I will be happy with whoever receives the award so long as it is not KAT-TUN. I would certainly not mind seeing Kuu win it again

Well, Koda Kumi is definitely going to win the Gold Disc Grand Prize (Artist of the Year). They award it to the artist with the most sales of the year Unless we enter some weird parallel universe where her upcoming releases don't sell well. As far as I can tell, only KAT-TUN is next to her with regards to sales numbers.

The Record Taisho is awarded for artistic merit. I doubt KAT-TUN will even be nominated. They have never nominated a Johnny's Jimusho group. I'm with Ayumiko here, I don't think any of Koda Kumi's singles so far is deserving of this award. Maybe I'll Be There, but that song is part of a 4 A-side (they prefer to award singles whose titles correspond to the first track).

5 new songs is the same amount of new songs avex put in BoA's OUTGROW album, although BoA's only had like 13-14 tracks.

Exactly. If they were to have nominated a Johnny group, it would have been SMAP with their 'Sekai....' song in 2003, but Ayu got it with 'No way to say'.

I think Kuu has a good chance of winning 2 years straight. Probably with 'Koi no Tsubomi', 'Someday' or 'I'll be there'. I would actually like 'Someday' to win, more than I want the other 2 songs.

But Koda Kumi was not the #1 seller the year she won "Artist of the Year." So that can't be the only criteria for naming the winner.

If she wins any awards this year, it may be for Koi no Tsubomi or Someday. Both of those instrumentals are unique in her discography.

I think Kuu has the potential to win this year.. =D
But what about Kaoru Amane (Erika Sawa... i forget)...??
She's ripping up the charts with that single of hers..
But then again, she may win Best New Artist or something...

Thanks for the news and tracklist ^^ Looking forward to this album, 'cause I love all the singles so far. So this may be the first Kuu album I'll be buying

and it's a 'character' single, so that might deter the composer's association from nominating/giving her the award...

Well, 6 new tracks is my minimum for purchasing an album, unless most of the singles are brilliant, so I don't think I'll be picking up Black Cherry anytime soon... 4 hot wave is probably enough for now.

Oh, it's always been the only criteria (criterion?) for Artist of the Year. Check out the older (early 90s) winners at their website: http://www.golddisc.jp/award/20/index.html

They used to post the total sales; I wonder why they don't these days? Koda Kumi was the #1 seller last year. She just managed to edge out Orange Range (thank God they didn't win two years in a row).

And, yes, character singles don't get nominated That's why a VERY deserving Glamorous Sky didn't even get nominated last year.

The award tobygirl2020 was referring to was "Artist of the Year". That's the Gold Disc Award. That's what we were talking about

The Nihon Record Taisho is for Record of the Year.
