you will be surprised how people become very gullible when talking about relationship/love.

If she were so naive or gullible, I'm sure something like this would have happened before. She's never gonna let someone enter her life like that, she's in her early 30's, and if you've ever seen what a strangle hold she has on her career, you'd know she wasn't naive.

I read the lyrics before listening to the song and it is what i have expected, a little bit of sadness in the song.
Thank you for translating

isn't something a bit off in these lines? or am I just misunderstanding? When I read the Japanese, I understood it as the speaker talking to a confidante about her past lover and how they're similar to the speaker's (current) lover. In your translation, it seems like the speaker (who we assume is ayu) is romantically involved with a woman, considering the kanji ayu used for 'anata' (貴女).

Wow, I just...

you know, there are some Ayu songs that haven't really hit a chord with me at the time I heard them, for one reason or another. Maybe I wasn't in the mood, or I couldn't relate to the lyrics. Maybe the melody and the composition wasn't my favorite, but this.. this is just like how I fell head over heels for fated. Every little thing about it just HITS me and, reading the words, translating bits that I can and seeing the graciously provided (and very pretty!) translation, I feel myself fighting back tears... It's like she's singing something I'm FEELING right now, word for word, picking every thought out of my head and making into into a song. It's eerie. ;_;

Virgin Road is the best song I've heard in a long time. Everything seemed to flow well together, though I feel like Ayu's voice is a little too deep for the composition at some points in the song, but ayu > someone else

I was reading 2ch when the lyrics came out and they thought that she wrote the song for her mom and was talking about how she loved her then / loves her the same now.. or something like that.

I know right? Something about these lyrics, despite still having that distinct 'Ayu touch', is really special. I can't quite put my finger on it but I sat there stunned after reading them. They are very simple but really powerful, and I think they take a few reads to really see the beauty in the words she chose.

I'm looking forward to seeing other translations to get a better grasp on their meaning.

I'm surprised Japanese people would interpret it that way. In Japan, virgin road = the wedding aisle. This is clearly a wedding song (and, ideally, should be the most profound statement of love).

The reason that they would interpret it as such though is because of "anata" having the 貴女 kanji instead of being just あなた. I guess she's directing the song towards a woman?

I thought so too. Personally I'd translate it as:

"I feel that the person you met and fell in love with in those days
Is somehow similar to the person who I love [now]"

I think Mittki and tenshi no hane are on the right track with regards to the translation.

if the addressee is indeed her mom then... she's comparing the one she loves to her father? how interesting.
