YUI performs at live events in Kansai as “flower flower”

On January 9th, it was reported that singer-songwriter YUI who has been hiatus after the end of last year, performed at some live events in the Kansai region, under the artist name “flower flower.”

According to a person concerned with the events, YUI appeared at small live music clubs on the 7th, 8th, and 9th in different cities, as one of several performers. She introduced herself as “flower flower”, and did not perform any of YUI’s songs. Reportedly, her long hair was cut short, and she sang some songs that she recently made, with her own accompaniment of an acoustic guitar.

Since YUI’s appearance was not known to the public, and it was the stage that she didn’t produce the “YUI atmosphere”, some of the audience members never noticed that it was YUI. The relevant person explained that those activities were completely private ones, and it was just for her to enjoy the music with her friends.

When she announced her hiatus, she wrote on her official site, “I would like to do a lot of fun things through my precious music.”

At this moment, they say that there are no concrete plans for YUI’s comeback or her new activities as “flower flower.”

YUI Returns to Music With New Band

Singer/songwriter YUI (Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) is returning to music as a a vocalist for the new band Flower Flower. The four-member band will make its formal debut at the Japan Jam event in Tokyo on May 4. The band will then play at the Tokyo Metropolitan Rock Festival 2013 on May 26. Flower Flower has launched an official website and Twitter account.

YUI formed the band with other musicians she respects, and the band started studio sessions earlier this year. Flower Flower has already been performing "secret" live events across Japan. YUI said that with Flower Flower, she is able to purely enjoy the music that the band creates, and from each new performance, she naturally gets new ideas for potential new songs.

YUI had announced in November that she would be taking a hiatus from music. She explained then that she wanted to try something new.

YUI has been performing music for eight years, and previously took a short hiatus from music from the end of 2008 to the middle of 2009. She performed the fifth ending theme for the Bleach anime, "Life," and the first opening theme for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, "again." Her newest "YUI Best Albums," titled Green Garden Pop and Orange Garden Pop, were released in Japan on December 5.

who knows maybe I might like Flower Flower's music more than YUI's actual solo works ? just wondering how much of a difference will things be when you compare both their material side by side in due time

and for the record , she's not the only artiste attempting this hiatus but starting something musically new on the sideline currently , just saying

I know she's not the only artist doing this, and I don't know how that should change me not liking it. Some fans might like changes like this, but I don't. It's kind of like she loses her own musical identity. I guess that she may do as she pleases, but everyone has a right not to be so thrilled about it. I'd rather an artist go for hiatus for years, but come back to their original stage name as they always were. Her discography up until now is practically dead. That's what saddens me. YUI is no more. She's "flower flower" now. Excuse me for saying this, but who names a band like that I'll never know. Surely there are worse name than this, but come on. I'm sorry if I come off rude to anyone, I'm just very disappointed and sad with this.

YUI has been a solo artist for eight straight years. I think she has more than earned the chance to move on and chase another dream. I'm looking forward to what her new band will release.

I honestly thought when I heard she was going on another hiatus, that we would never hear from her again except for maybe another BEST far into the future...so I'm happy with the news. Thanks for sharing, KarenPang!

It doesn't really matter to me if their stuff is good or not. If it's YUI it probably will be good. I just don't like the idea and I'll leave it at that. Not like it matters what I think anyway. Each to their own.

^Then I take it you didn't like when Ai Otsuka formed "Rabbit". I'm sorry, but it's disappointing to me when some people can't accept that the artist that they love is going in a new direction.
