this year's tour is her first tour in 15 years (according to the promo brochure), which sounds accurate.
i saw her live the other week in sapporo and her stage presence was fine, she stood in the middle and sang and didn't talk. though she gave a fan in the audience a bracelet from her ankle at the end which was cute, the girl was in tears. her voice was flat but i think the acoustic sound of the show doesn't help that either. looking forward to the broadcast!

^ Wow, I thought I'd replied to your comment long ago, but it appears I never did. Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for your insight on the concert, it was interesting to hear! The anklet moment sounds really cute. It's unfortunate that she sounded flat, but... yeah, she does, based on the preview as well.
Live DVD/Blu-ray ENDLESS LESSON will be released on November 29th! It's a two-disc release featuring one concert recording from the Syndrome Concert Tour on each disc. Disc 1, titled LESSON 1 [FLAME], contains the concert recorded on July 12th at Tokyo Nakano Sun Plaza with the full tour band, and disc 2, LESSON 2 [ROSE], contains the recording from her July 18th concert at Zepp DiverCity (Tokyo) which featured only the piano backing the vocals. The set list was the same for both concerts. Cover and tracklist: Spoiler:

I downloaded an audio rip of ENDLESS LESSON here a week ago and I've been listening to it a lot for the past few days and I've come to enjoy it quite a bit. Random thoughts:
- Chihiro does indeed sound flatter and raspier than on Tiny Screams, but she still hits all the notes (good bye my love is obviously a struggle though), she seems to get better as the concerts progress (she sounds beautiful in both recordings of Hi no Tori), and is overall pretty good - she can really deliver the songs. - I'm really impressed with many of the arrangements. X is a highlight on both discs, and it works flawlessly with both the acoustic band and piano-only arrangements. Ryuuseigun and Kaerimichi wo Nakushite both manage to sound grand even with just the piano and vocals, and I actually prefer these takes over any other live versions I've heard. - I have a clear preference for the second disc, LESSON 2 [ROSE]. I think most of the songs actually sound better with just the piano, the rest of the band just doesn't seem to add much and can sometimes actually be kind of a distraction from Chihiro's voice (Ao no Hakobune should always be performed with only the piano - or at most, piano and some sparsely used extra, like on Tiny Screams). - These live albums have really made me discover Last Melody. It's such a great song that I always used to overlook, and Chihiro sings it really well live, I love listening to the live versions. - I am OBSESSED with Hi no Tori at the end of the second disc. It was my favourite song on Syndrome since day 1, and it just sounds so good as a gentle piano ballad, and Chihiro sings it so softly and the warmth and sadness in the song come out so clearly... and her tearful thank-you at the end, ugh my heart. - On the negative side of things: Hi no Tori, Chandelier and Natsu no Tsumi are really the only ones among the new songs that stand out positively on this release. good bye my love and Ao no Hakobune are fantastic songs, but the performances on both discs are just rough, and I don't really feel like listening to them again. Meanwhile, the rest of the new songs are just forgettable next to her older material. If anyone wants to hear the rips but hates the upload hosts the site above uses (I know I do), just say the word and I can upload the rips somewhere else. I also noticed randomly today that Tiny Screams is now available on Spotify (at least in my region)! It didn't used to be there, and her other releases on the current label still aren't, which I find strange. But anyway, for any Spotify users here, go check if it's available and enjoy! It's such a good album, probably my favourite purchase last year.

New concerts coming in the summer! Chihiro Onitsuka Concert Tour "UNDER BABIES" will have shows in Osaka's ZEPP NAMBA on June 13th and in Tokyo's ZEPP TOKYO on June 18th. The tour band includes a pianist, violinist, and cellist.
UNDER BABIES is just... the most Chihiro-esque title, lmao. The (huge) official banner that came with the announcement: Spoiler:

Oh my Oh my Oh my GOD!
Last week I was moaning because the artists I like and who come in Europe always choose the wrong date. Kokia'll come the 11th November in Paris and I already have a concert myself such as for Sky-Hi last year. But this time it should be ok. |

^ I hope you can make it! This date seems really good, it's a Saturday and all! And I hope I can find a way to make it too, ahhhh.
Chihiro's Facebook page shared this post from a French Facebook page that I think has some information about the concert, but I haven't been able to try and look further into it yet. Here's what they published, hopefully this will be of help to someone: Quote:

Let me translate it quickly (in my bad English). French is my mother tongue ;-)
The most powerful voice of Japan will hold a concert for the first time in France. Presale will start on 26th May 2018 at 2 pm on the official shop of La Fée Sauvage :http://shop.wildfaery.com The remain tickets’ll be sold in the traditional point of sales ( Fnac, Carrefour, Auchan, Tocketmaster) on 9th Juny at 10 am. On 12nd January 2019 Chihiro Onitsuka’ll hold a concert for the first time at the Trianon in Paris. She’ll be accompanied only by a piano and she’ll sing her classic songs and her recent works. *After that it’s just a short biography with her records and hits.* Her last album, Syndrome (https://youtu.be/sG6Myna-7iU) will be released in an European edition on 7th November 2018. A wonderful edition included CD, DVD and a Vinyl. |

I want to go so much! I can't afford to book a trip right now, but I might get a ticket and book transport/hotel last minute. London - Paris is simple. Whatever I do will be cheaper than a trip to Japan anyway...!!
I want to see her so badly. |

Hinagiku pv :
Nice Ballad. The covers for this single is very different from what she did. I like them. |

The cover looks really good, but not a fan of her shorter hair though. I thought she would style it edgier.
The song sounds good so far, I know she really did her best to make the song sounds like the "grand ballad" like what she did in the past, but I feel there is something lacking in her voice, which I think was the same problem with her last album. Overall, I'm still excited for her new stuff, can't wait to listen the full version. |

^ I'm not a fan of the shorter hair either, I don't think it's a particularly flattering cut for her. I'm not loving the covers either, I think they look a bit busy with the carpet as the background, Chihiro's hair all over the place, the mesh and fringe and everything on her dress...
I like the song though! I'm looking forward to hearing the full version. I hope Twilight Dreams will be good too. |

Cover is great, but the song is pretty but a bit weak. Also, not a fan of the short hair. At least the cover (which is great), is nothing SANDWITCHES-like lol

I forgive the cover by the fact that she is using "billy sandwitches" instead of her real name.
And surprisingly, the songs in that album are unexpectedly good. I still hoping she will do a live for "I'm with your shadow". |

^ I'm really bummed that she seems to have abandoned that album completely as a side project to be forgotten. The songs were good! I would've loved it if Tiny Screams had included songs like I'm with your shadow, Mad Man, Your Quiet Fantasia, Road of Honesty... They would've fit the setlist seamlessly and I would love to hear them with stripped-down live arrangements and Chihiro's improved vocals.
By the way, thinking about her lives and setlists reminded me to go check out what she performed at the recent UNDER BABIES concerts. Here's the setlist for the stop at Zepp Tokyo: 1. シャイン (Shine) 2. 青い鳥 (Aoi Tori) 3. infection 4. 漂流の羽根 (Hyouryuu no Hane) 5. 月光 (Gekkou) 6. 流星群 (Ryuuseigun) 7. CROW 8. edge 9. MAGICAL WORLD 10. 弦葬曲 (Gensoukyoku) 11. Sign 12. 私とワルツを (Watashi to Waltz wo) 13. 僕等 バラ色の日々 (Bokura Barairo no Hibi) 14. 螺旋 (Rasen) 15. King of Solitude 16. Twilight Dreams 17. VENUS (source) Really cool setlist! I like that she's performing some deeper cuts and hasn't forgotten about Ken to Kaede. I wonder if the upcoming August concerts will feature a changed setlist. |
