British/American classic rock recommendations.

Cutting through the crap produced by most artists nowadays, can anyone recommend me anything from the glory days of rock? In other words, something a bit more vintage then Franz Ferdinand and Arctic Monkeys! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So anything rock that's not from today? Pretty broad but I could recommend some goodies...

How about Elton John? Especially his old stuff. He is great in a huge way. The classics: Benny and the Jets, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Rocket Man, Daniel, Tiny Dancer, Your Song, Crocodile Rock...

Ummm Tom Petty is pretty wonderful... Free Falling, Don't Do Me Like That, Refugee, Don't Come Around Here No More, I Won't Back Down, You Don't Know How It Feels...

Aaaaaand hmm how about Fleetwood Mac? They are the quintissential classic rock band. Silver Springs, Dreams, The Chain, Songbird, Go Your Own Way, Don't Stop...

I call something "Classic" rock if it will never go out of style and the songs will be played and loved for all times. I think those above are all good examples.

Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Rush, Yes, ZZ Top, Styx, Alice Cooper, and Frank Zappa are good places to start.
