I think her voice has changed siginificantly. It used to be pretty hihg-pitched and has now taken on a very deep sound...it seems like she has some trouble with those high ntoes nowadays. Either that, or she's just chosen to sing in a different key to vary her music a bit.

For me, the change of Ayu's voice is quite great... i love how she finds new styles which corresponds to the range of her voice..neh? but, i think, after My Story Era, her voice is not the thing which changed but her style... Because, she can still sing right now the way she sings before if she wants to sing it that way... that's my OpinIon...

I'd say with Secret/Guilty to me is when her voice sounds very mature (compared to just a little less before) and stronger than in the past. She does seem to match her voice with the style of music.

but i really miss her "my story" era voice. that has got to be my favorite ayu voice. i like it now too, it's very strong and wicked awesome with great attitude.

Ah, I LOVE Ayu's deeper voice! I mean, just listen to the song GUILTY <~ this song in particular... the vocals are SO beautiful.
And I LOVE LOVE LOVE her vibrato. I actually think she doesn't use it enough, I am that crazy about it XD

I like the sound of her voice in the beggining of her career too, though~ Her voice from back then fits her songs from back then, and her current voices fits her newer songs...

About the HONEY voice, I do like voices with cutesy tones~ but even though I really love HONEY, her voice in it turns me off the song a bit. It's just TOO forced to be cute. Argh!

i love ayu's deeper voice in concerts, live versions of A Song for XX is better than on the album, but i think as her music gets darker, then her voice is deeper~music get happier, voice gets higher ^^

I don't miss the dolly voice. As a matter of fact, I never liked it to begin with. It sounded awful. I can't listen to ASFXX (the album) for that reason, and some of her earlier songs are likewise bleh to me.

I loved ayu's squeaky/young voice, therefore I have no problems enjoying A Song for xx songs! or other songs.

Though I love ayu's voice today much much more, specially with her awesome vibratos, they're giving the chills in a very good way.

I agree. Her nasally voice annoyed me a lot but I'm getting used to it. I just hate the manamana choruses she does like in SURREAL. I think GUILTY sounds much better with her deep voice. The only thing that does annoy me though is that she seems to use the deep voice over and over, even on her older songs when singing live. I think SURREAL sounds better nasally than deep but she performed it deep on her most current CDL concert.

but yeah, voices change. Hikki's voice sounds completely different on her earlier albums than on her current ones.

I think Ayumi's deepened voice is a big improvement! I'm a little afraid to listen to her first album because of the way her voice sounded. I also feel that she's gotten better at expressing her emotions through her voice (as opposed to just her lyrics).

I actually don't *prefer* either the early era or the recent era in terms of Ayu's voice, because I find that the songs lose their charm if she hadn't sung it that way during that time. It's just a kinda reminiscent of that particular time when Ayu sounded like that.

In chronological order, I love Poker Face, but I also love say, Trauma, and then SURREAL, Evolution, and then Free & Easy, Moments, STEP you, B&D, Startin', T2M, MW. =D It's all goooood.

However, I actually don't really like the 'Honey' voice. Especially in Honey, I just thought it sounded a little false. Winding road, Moments, my name's WOMEN, Humming 7/4 from MY STORY are all awesome ofc, but just not Honey... Nothing like the cut-edge raw voice from say End roll or ASFXX on A BEST, or the fire from T2M and MW.

Overall, ofc Ayu's voice has changed, but that's cos' that's what time does to you, and Ayu worked on how she sung, a lot. I think evidently, Ayu's voice from Depend on you and her singing from Boys & Girls would already differ. She does work on her vocals a lot. XD

I also think that her voice changed a little bit to a stronger voice maybe beacuse of the low notes of her new songs.. But you can really prove it when she's performing live. When she performs her earlier songs which are high-pitched she makes her voice strong or she just shouts because she can't reach the high notes..

she also learned how to make her vibrato really slow..(i dunno how to describe it). An example is with her live performance on a Christmas show where she was singing "JEWEL" wearing a santa-claus motif gown..
