Am I the only one who sees Utada Hikaru and Utada as totally different beings? IMO they are completely separate people and it's really obvious in their music.

Hence all the distinct differences between her "old music" and "new music" I never saw Utada as being different than Hikki just as being a different side of an artist in a genre undefined and experimental. Kinda like how Ultra Blue was so completely off the wall compared to her older works and Exodus.
