I'm quite confident in the fact that v-kei/jrock bands are way more popular that jpop acts. I know way more people who listen to j-rock and go to j-rock festivals here in the U.S. than I do people who even know who Ayu is. I'm a big fan of both though so there are a chance there are people like that as well. Maybe it's just where I live, but if a random j-rock act announced a concert around here and Ayu were to do the same, I could almost guarantee people would flock to the random act.

True.
Jrock is huge outside of Japan. For example Dir en Grey managed a good turnout with a US/Canada and Jrock revolution was a sold out event, but at the end they were club and a festival like setup with multiple bands.
A tour of Ayu's current magnitude and extravagance is impossible to succeed so I would love if Ayu would do club dates like Utada but I don't thats likely either.
