This. Timmy has a musical background, a professional one. He studied it, he knows how to compose and that is easily visible in the sheer variety of melodies he has written for Ayumi though he hasn't even written many songs for her yet. Party Queen is her most interesting album melodically by far, skillfully taking influences from many areas for the melodies, not just the arrangements. Ayumi doesn't know anything about composition, she said it herself, and most of her melodies are rather...awkward at times, unique, yes, but awkward and often much of the same, they always followed similar structures. Most of the CREA-tracks people love stand out for incredible arrangements(M is only unique because of it's fresh arrangement) rather than great composition. The songs aren't bad, but the thing making them (musically) great isn't Ayumi's work.

CREA compositions are like Adele compositions, they are unique and given great delivery to make them stand out, but are rather mediocre when you really take a look at the melody lines instead of letting the stuff around it fool you.
Like forgiveness, it's my FAVORITE Ayumi song, but the melody is really simplistic and not special whatsoever, the arrangement and emotion in the delivery turn the song into something unique, not the CREA work.

I don't understand why you ever took your time to do this, maybe you're also that bored here of Ayu crappy releases that you do this, hm?

This forum is seriously bitter/twisted.
I don't think so. I'm speaking of him based on my personal experience with his 'magnificent' music

Nah, I'm on an all-time Ayu-high, if we got another I Am..., LOVEppears or MY STORY - then I'd be pissed at Ayu for putting out mediocre albums.

Her most overrated eras. The eras in which she musically was at times even replacable(most of the second half on I Am... could have been released by anyone, even at that time) and generic.
Her lyrics were rather good then, though, especially on LOVEppears, though some of them are too angst-y for me personally, I like her later, more subtle lyrics.

cannot agree on this. these 'eras' made her a legend, I don't think it was for nothing. and her new 'eras' just seem to make her worse & worse, with the level of ridiculous-ness raising all the time, sorry

Those eras most certainly did make her a legend. But not as much for musical reasons as for cultural reasons.
And do you seriously disagree that the second half of I Am... was generic ballads galore? Which isn't saying they are bad but...more than just a tad generic. (Also, more ridiculousness than DT01, which was in the I am... era? Impossible...that tour was the definition of tacky. Back then she was almost as tacky as Kana Nishino is now and that says a lot.)

You cannot agree with the ballads on I am.. being generic?
That's the one fact in everything I've said xD Of course she still has the generic ballad problem from time to time(meaning of love, beloved...) but never in the sheer amounts of I am...thanks god those ballads weren't bad, so them being generic doesn't matter that much.

I don't dislike any of ayu's past eras except for MY STORY. But I think her music has matured a lot since then. I definitely prefer the ayu (m)u onward.

personally, the only reason I think people love I am... is because it's a solid album that's sort of right in that middle of her "changing" sounds...

as in...it doesn't have the 90s sound of a song for xx, it doesn't have the electronic pop/2000 sound of LOVEppears...doesn't have the darker feel of duty (and it's more solid)...but it was also like, the best of all of the ayu things from there. And it was after A BEST, which...was huge lets just say. So it's all a new album with lots of variety compared to her past albums, and every song is pretty much a good song with the exception of two or three...

Oh and then RAINBOW came out, which everyone hated. And it doesn't sound like that either. So it's like "omg this album sucks" after the last one was so good...or seemingly so good. It certainly looks better after a crappy album comes out

I have such a hard time expressing myself lol

whatever. I think...sometimes people hype it...but I also think there's a good reason why.

Overrated? meh. Her recent eras are just as overrated as her old ones imo. And there's reason for that too.

Personally, I prefer mature ayu, but with old ayu's music. Which obviously I'll never get, so whatever. memorial address-my story is a nice "era" cause it kinda transitions the two for me.

are you serious though, saying those ballads are generics is just opinion. And IMO the ballads on I Am... have nothing in common with the likes of meaning of love and beloved...

The first Ayu album (on her chronology) that I really love is RAINBOW... I don't think she has any BAD album, but I don't really consider any album she released before RAINBOW to be that great...

Generic? No...plz. As much as I love meaning of Love and beloved those are in fact very generic sounding ballads and the I am... ones are all really unique and could hardly be classified as generic.

I am was a milestone of a sort. Along with RAINBOW it has the most unique sound that she has imo produced so far.

^ CREA was not the one working on the arrangements, CREA only worked on the melodies. With the one exception being WONDERLAND afaik.

Are you kidding me or are you delusional enough to believe a song is born, no more words and Dearest aren't generic as hell? Which is a big part of the ballad-heavy second half I was talking about.
Holy ****, I didn't even call the album bad, just pointed out that some songs are very generic(that's not an opinion, that's not a judgement, that is a simple observation) and people jump my throath xD As a whole it's still less generic than other artist's entire careers(if I named people now there'd be a whole other shitstorm, but there are many, especially in the J-Pop world, that could be named), but that doesn't change that there are rather generic songs on it, amongst unique masterpieces surely, but they are there.
