This is probably old news but...deaf?

You probably all know what I'm talking about right? The whole thing with Ayu supposedly being deaf in one ear? Well everyhwere I look there's different stories all surrounding this, is there anyone who can clear this up for me?

I don't know much about the issue, I think it's her left ear which is impaired and I know she has a past history of untreated ear infections. It could have been a complication of one those infections.

Hmm, well I heard that it started from a tour in 03 but it's gradually got worse, I just got a little worried as there was some sites talking of her stopping making any more music altogether, I couldn't find how recent these thigns were though. If they were from around 03 then it should be okay right?

I'll explain it!

Ayu has a weak left ear. She was born that way. She never had much trouble with that but in 2000 she worked under extreme stess. During the rehearsel of singing "A song for XX" for the Dome Tour 2001 Ayu heard a weird sound in her left ear. Because of this her ear was hurting and she forgot the lyrics to the song.
Then, later at the rehearsel Ayu was at the big globe that is supposed to open the Dome tour with Evolution. Ayu felt her ear hurt again, lost her balance and fell in a deep (1 meter?) hole at the construction. She had to be taken to the hospital.
Ayu returned to the Dome some time later, and the Dome Tour was already delayed. Fans outside didn't know why. Ayu entered the building in a wheelchair. The doctor adviced her to cancel the concert. If she were to go through with the concerts and working under so much stress with so much loud music, Ayu could go deaf on her left ear indefenite.
Ayu didn't give up. In her wheelchair she said: "The concert is on it's way". The scarred Ayu managed to fullfill the Dome Tour 2001 flawless and she can still hear with her left ear; even though it surely still is an issue for her for it's weakness.

Well from what you've said it all sounds okay to me, well as okay as it can be. Thanks for telling me about that. Though all the stuff I read was talking about a concert in 03, hmm, it wasn't just on a couple of websites either it was on a fair few. Oh well, all seems dandy.

In the "Special Interview 2004-04-12 NTV" (which can be downloaded in one of the threads here) Ayumi says she still can't hear very well with her left ear. She always answers the phone with the other ear.

Thanks for the explanation. I feel kinda bad for Ayu, but with her determination, seems like nothing will stop her; so I guess I should feel happy too. ^_^

one more thing to add! she injured her leg after she fell into the hole.. but still performed at the concert... i love her determination!

At live performances if she has the dual earpieces in you can usually see her sometimes press on the left one. Just an extra snippet.

I've noticed her pressing on the left one before, and every time i see it i feel bad.. thinking "ayu's having problems with her ear again" .. poor girl

but she has great determination!

she made the decision...sometimes I think it wasn't a right way, `cause she just injured herself!

Y'know I was kinda starting to feel a little less worried about this, but with the way some of yuor guys knew so little about nit, well it's got me worried again. Well maybe worried is a strong word, but just knowing she's still got this problem means it could get worse at any time, which is bad.

Her condition seems to be tinnitus, but I'm not 100% sure

I heard she was like 80% deaf in one ear or something, but she can still hear, just not very well.

She's not deaf in one ear, she's only about 80% deaf in one ear; not completely.

Google it quickly, and it seems (at least from what I read from interviews and everything) that the symptoms matches pretty much what Ayu was experiencing.
