^ I'm sure the sales will be good, but I don't see this album outselling Emancipation.

I just don't see EMC hacing as many hit singles as EOM, especially with the single choices so far. I doubt any can match "We Belong Together" + other singles or even the re-issue "Don't Forget About Us" which really prolonged the chart life of the album.

I agree with you. I definitely don't see Bye Bye becoming as enormous a hit as We Belong Together, or even Don't forget About Us. The lyrics are beautiful, but what does that matter when the melody is so dull? After listening to the album a few times, I've realized that it opens strong, but after Side Effects, just sort of goes downhill into extreme mediocrity. I think that it's definitely worse than Emancipation after reevaluating it :\

I do like EMC over EOM, but just barely. ( and might be just because EMC is still fresh and I've listened EOM so much lol)

but EOM definitely had more variety and single material.

my choice for singles off EMC:

1st Migrate
2nd For The Record
3rd Cruise Control (EU) / Touch My Body (US)

and that's it, I don't really see any other songs working as singles. EMC really needs a re-issue like EOM had. EOM re-issue added a great ballad and few club tracks to the album, and EMC really needs the same treatment. at the moment EMC has too many sameish mid-tempo songs and only a couple really upbeat tracks.

EMC japanese release has two extra tracks tho. the titles "Heat" & "4real4real feat da Brat" suggest to me that they're more upbeat, but I guess we'll see.

Fly Like A Bird

For 99cents please support the "Idol Gives Back" cause and download Mariah's performance of "Fly Like A Bird" from last night.

Yeah, that was pretty much my impression on first listen. EOM felt like it had more variety, but on EMC pretty much everything, even Migrate, seemed like part of the same mid-tempo blur. A very nice-sounding blur every now and then, but I definitely prefer EOM.

This was seriously an amazing performance. Loved it. Even better than her Grammy performance of it.

the bonus tracks have leaked.

both are sort of like mid-tempo club tracks, unfortunately neither is anything that special. I was hoping for something better ...

Well, if you think about it, Emancipation = Mariah Carey to the second power. That's how I think of it!

that's what the title means. MSN article with Mariah about the title

Quote:
he explained that the album title meant "'The Emancipation Of Mimi' to the second power", referring to her 2005 album, which she believes she has surpassed.
my favorite quote from the article:
Quote:
Carey laughed at the suggestion that the album title, the formula of Albert Einstein's theory of relativity, suggested an interest in physics.

"Einstein's theory?" she laughed. "Physics? Me ? Hello ! I even failed remedial math. I could not pass seventh grade math even in the lowest class with the worst kids."
Mariah keeps it real

Yeah, there is so much promotion. Did anyone else see her on Oprah today? It's on YouTube, as are her commercials for MTV. She's doing that thing with MTV where she's got a commercial at every single break. They're hilarious, especially these two:

most european studios do not have live equipment that is why most europena bands lipsync.

Yes, she's a diva but I get the impression she's honest about what she's good at and what she's not. I feel she's earned it and she doesn't seem nasty or arrogant the way some other celeb divas do. So far I've heard good things about how she treats her fans.

Would a name change to the Official Mariah Thread be good? She's a big star, so there should still be things to talk about even after E=MC2's release.
