Final Evangelion Film Slated for Fall-Winter 2015 With Utada Song

The first 2015 issue of Bungeishunjū's Weekly Bunshun magazine on Thursday featured an article on the return of singer Hikaru Utada. It quoted a record company source as saying that confidential talks are underway regarding her return to the music industry. The source added that it has been decided that she will sing the theme song for the final new Evangelion film "slated to open between fall and winter of next year." The source explained that Utada has one more album left on her contract with Universal Music Japan, so the company wants the Evangelion song to be the focus of the final album.

I don't like how they worded that. They make it sound like she's at the end of her career. Like "just one album left till she not legally required to make music any more".


Also, we have to wait a whole year for Fall/Winter 2015. So if that is when she's coming back, we are going to have to wait a while yet.

^ Well, considering she's been taking a looooong hiatus, it's not weird they'd phrase it that way. And it is true that this album is the last thing legally requiring her to make music (as far as we know).

I wonder if she has been writing any music during her hiatus.

Considering Beautiful World and Sakura Nagashi were both used in Evangelion Movies, and they're both amazing, I have high hopes for whatever she comes up with this time.

It really just sounds like she doesn't want to come back but that she has to at some point lol. Which is kind of depressing, but I feel it. Hopefully she's feeling good about whatever she intends to create in the future.

That's the thing about hiatuses. You take a step away from your work. In utada's case, she stopped making music.

Well I mean, I understand why she is taking such a long break. She's been doing music since she was like what, 9? That does get extremely tiring and exhausting. Even if it leaves us with a lot to desire. Sakura Nagashi was so perfect and flawless.
